Snow in Love is a cute and festive story that also has a fair bit of drama. The Alaskan setting is absolutely perfect, and I enjoyed the relatable main character. This is a cute and fluffy holiday read that is he perfect thing to curl up with this winter.

This book tells the story of a girl whose boyfriend shows up in her town with a new girlfriend. In an attempt to make him jealous, she starts hanging out with another guy and ends up starting to fall for him. I loved the Alaskan setting, especially since I haven’t read too many books set there. Snow in Love makes Alaska seem like the ultimate winter destination, and I would definitely love to go there after reading it. The plot is pretty clichéd, but honestly, I like that sort of thing in fluffy holiday reads.

I enjoyed Jessie’s character in the book. She works at the ice cream parlour that her parents run, and she’s so relatable. I liked the way she deals with the mean girls in town, and she has a great group of friends. Jessie’s cluelessness and naiveté did get a bit frustrating at times, but overall, she entertained me.

Snow in Love is a short and sweet book that is perfect for the holidays. I loved the wintry setting and the female friendships in the story. There were certain aspects that didn’t impress me, but I still found this one pretty cute.

I chose not to round up because there were not enough interactions between Jessie and Will. Will was a great character but he wasn’t really flushed out or developed as well as he could have been. I didn’t get why Jessie didn’t want to like him. She seemed almost ashamed of liking him, but Will was a funny and genuinely nice guy.

I was also not a fan of her desperation. She was so desperate to get Jake back that she seemed kind of pathetic. She was also way too devious and almost stalkerish with him. I didn’t get why she liked Jake in the first place. He was kind of a jerk.

I did enjoy all the fun seasonal events that the town hosted and the secondary characters were pretty good.

This was an okay read, not particularly great nor particularly not so great. It's a quick, breezy read.
The things I liked:
The setting in Alaska with the snow-covered mountains and the small town and the winter festival. All of that added nice detail to the book and I could imagine being there and skiing and snow boarding.
The story was pleasant to read, ended up pretty much where I thought it was going, but still it was fun to see it play out.
Jessie's family members were nice additions to the story. I liked that her family was close and loving, but didn't care much for her mother's initial reaction to her daughter's heartache, she seemed to merely brush it off as if it wasn't important. But when the mean girls appeared, her mom stepped up and let Jessie know she was on her side, so I did like that. The little brother's antics were fun.
I liked the different personalities of her friends, Abby and Erin; would have liked to know them better. Abby's crush on Cam added a nice counterpoint to the main story.
Things I didn't like:
The almost stalkerish behavior of Jessie to her ex-boyfriend, Jake, (or is he?)was a bit over the top, although maybe this is typical teenage behavior, I don't know.
The plotting to get Jake, back without even having a single conversation about what has or hasn't gone wrong between them was irritating. Come on, she's been dumped and doesn't ask even one time what happened? This didn't make sense to me.
The new girlfriend, Evie, was actually a really nice girl and didn't deserve what Jessie did to her, imo. Jessie didn't stop to consider that Evie believed Jessie was someone from the past and that Jake had possibly lied to both girls or else simply avoided the unpleasant conversations. This seemes very unfair, although Jessie did try to make amends in the end, possibly too little to late, but she did at the very least address that she'd been wrong, although she didn't tell Evie that.
Will was a great character, but I'd have liked to have a few more conversations betwee him and Jessie. I'd have liked him to tell her straight up that she was who he wanted, that he'd been waiting for her to drop the loser Jake and see him as more than a friend. Great character, but not allowed to develop enough.
All in all, I'd recommend it, but know what you're getting. It's very light and fluffy, nothing wrong with that.

Note: I'd have given this one three stars except for the use of the expression "holy crow" which is odd and I've only read it in one book and authors shouldn't 'borrow' something weird that no teenager actually every says.

This was an okay romance but with a bit too much insta love and neediness to be more than a 2 star in my estimation. The only thing I liked was Will, but he didn't get enough face time in the book. He wasn't well developed; at first he seemed like a snow jock only; and you never really got a feel for where his attraction to Jessie was coming from.

Jessie was sooooo needy and immature. Jake basically cheated on her. She she spends the first half of the book trying to get him to officially break up with her; and then the rest of it trying to get him to change his mind and come back to her. Then, when he does, she's all gaga over Will. Argh! When they go to the animal sanctuary, I was so furious because she knew she would be hurting Will's feelings and still she went. With a guy who was there with his new girlfriend when he had never even told his ex that they had broken up. Jake was supposed to be this horrible person, but in the end, the way Jessie treated him redeemed him in a lot of ways. I kind of hoped he'd rush home to get back together with Evie ....

Jessie just seemed like a horrible friend and horrible human being all around. I felt like this was written by someone who didn't understand teens at all and was just working with stereotypes from 80s (bad) teen films.

Oooo. And who rents a tux and then has it altered? That is totally NOT what any tux rental place would allow.

FYI: Characters named Will generally rock!!

I love books that have to deal with skiing and or snowboarding. I was iffy on whether I wanted to buy this book or not, but I'm glad I did. This book was a really sweet quick read. There cast is lovable and comedic, and the plot was really cute. Loved it!

I love all the books that were published under this line. Quick fun reads that really are just there to make you happy once you've finished them. I loved hearing about Alaska and the cute little shops (especially all the ice cream recipes).

This is about a book where there was a girl found out that her boyfriend didn't text over a long time when he went back to his home town. When it was season for her boyfriend to come back, she realized that her boyfriend was with someone else.... well read the book for the climax !!!

Opinions !!
You must like rom-com to love reading this as it has alot of corny jokes about teenage love and irony of it. The book really leaves you on point where you don't agree on someone action's so when the book dont end the way you want it to, you wont dislike the book

Cute, fast read. I liked the story overall but was annoyed with the main character and to how blind she was to what was happening, and how she responded to the situation.

Before I Read the Book...

Another Christmas book that I'm assuming focuses mostly on love...yippie...

Summary of the Story

Set in a small ski town in Alaska over winter break, Jess finds herself not having the vacation she imagined she would...

While Reading

What I Thought

Everyone knows how I feel about quaint snowy mountain towns, and add some romance to the mix and I'm good to go! Although I was going into this with the expectation of a Christmas-themed book - this one was just wintry - it was a really cute, short read.

This book gave me a much more modern view of Alaska. Set in a ski resort with the most amazing ice cream parlour, I was ready to grab my skis and jump on the next plane. This was a quick and easy book and was such a delight to read. It was most definitely a quirky, sugar coated romcom. It might be a wintery book, but it was full of sparkle.
This book definitely made Alaskan feel a lot let harsher and a lot more habitable. For the first time, since reading books in preparation for Alaska week, I actually didn't feel cold.
This is a typical love story or love triangle should I say. Girl has boy; girl then doesn't have boy: girl makes boy jealous with another boy and then realises that there is something rather lovely about the other boy. The sort of 'butterflies in your tummy' love triangle that make it difficult for you to put the book down. I honestly wish I had read this book over Christmas, because it would have been just the type of winter book I would have loved. Cheesy but adorable. Throw in the Northern Lights for the finale and you have a rather magical read.
The characters are rather lovely. Everyone will be swooning over Will as he is just adorable. Definitely a contender for the fictional boyfriend role. Jessie is a good main character, but you did want to shake her a few times through the book when she continued to make stupid decisions! I wanted to wash her eyes out with Optrex at one point, just so she could see what was actually happening around her.
This book talks a lot about food, which I loved. The ice cream flavours on offer alone at will have you salivating. I had this urge for a tub of Ben and Jerry's every time I picked up the book. I would love to own an ice cream parlour just like The Snow Cone!
A lovely comfort read, ideal for the winter break.

This was a cute read. Lately some of the books I have been reading have felt like they are missing a step. This one seemed like it was missing a bigger step to me.

Snow in Love is a story about Jessie living in Alaska. Jake has been her boyfriend for 3 years. He doesn't live in the same town but comes to visit a couple of times a year. They keep in contact with each other but 3 weeks before he is suppose to arrive he stops calling, texting or contacting her at all. He shows up in town with a new girlfriend. When Jessie tries to find out what happens she finds herself and Will pretending that they are a couple. Will is from Alaska. He is described as dating a different girl each day, not caring for anyone more than he cares for his snowboard. But his character is amazingly low key, fun and nice.

For the reader you have a sense that Will likes Jessie or wouldn't mind being a real couple with Jessie but nothing is said. To me I felt that some kind of confession on his part should have been made before the conclusion of the story. What girl goes to thinking a boy likes any girl to confessing feelings without every receiving confirmation of the feelings being reciprocated. To me it could have been better if something was confessed to her either by Will telling Jessie or him telling Erin and her confessing to Jessie.

Other than that it was a fun, quick read.

I like to snatch up any winter/holiday stories I can find, so when I saw this at the library I checked it out right away without really reading the description. Overall, I really liked it - it was cute and fun. Will is really appealing, and Jessie is generally likable. The downside: I feel like the characterizations of people were all over the place at times, and I wanted to hit Jessie a lot of the time. Jake was a coward and a total jerk, and Jessie tries to convince herself for way too long that he's the guy for her. I guess that relationship versus hers and Will's was supposed to be the main conflict and without Jessie wanting to get Jake back the book would be entirely different, but it bugged me that Jessie would want someone who treated her so badly, and that in the end his actions were basically glossed over and accepted. That sounds so negative, but no worries everyone - it's still a cute read if you can ignore the aggravating parts, and I would recommend it as a good winter break read.

I really wanted to like this book... There were parts that really worked but I just felt something was missing. That something was a lack of connection to the characters or why they like each other. It is a quick read and Ray does show promise as a writer.

Well, this didn't live up to my nine years of expectations. I've had this on my to-read list that long. It sounded a lot cuter than it actually was.

Jessie wasn't a good character. Not only was she pathetic concerning her boyfriend, but she was also really wishy washy and annoying.

'So what if I was going to get frostbite and likely lose a couple of fingers? So what? What was all this in the face of lost love?'
This was a bit dramatic.

'So what if I'll never get kissed again? At least I knew what it was like. Wonderful.'
So because your bf dumps you, you can never be kissed again by anyone else?

These books are pretty tame on the romance, yet the word bastard was in here, which was a little much for these books.

Jake was a big jerk for just suddenly stopping speaking to Jessie,& then having a gf. She goes to talk to him and he kisses her & we find out after he told his family they broke up.
Jessie was annoying in that she wouldn't get mad and demand answers from Jake.
When he puts his hands behind his back, Jessie actually thinks it's because he really wanted to kiss her.

Will was too flirty and I didn't like his reputation.
Abby is fitting him for his tux and Jessie tells him he doesn't have to go to the dance with her.
'"No worries. I like giving Abby a reason to put her hands on me." Abby turned bright red.'
I don't like the hero flirting with the heroine's friends, or any other girl.

When Jake and Evie are in her family's ice cream shop, she makes a heart out of whipped cream on his ice cream. He gives her a look and then orders his ice cream without whipped cream after that. This was just embarrassing.

Jessie had no self-respect. Despite her boyfriend ditching her and not even telling her, she still wants to get back with him. One minute she's embracing the single life, the next she wants him to kiss her. And is blowing him kisses behind Evie's back.
Abby didn't have any self-respect for herself either. She'd been friends with Cam growing up, and had a crush on him. When Sabrina moves to town, he ditches Abby & goes out with the mean girl,& she still likes him.

It took 161 pages to mention Will has blond hair. I really hate lack of information like that. Those are basic things.

There was a point when everyone was getting on my nerves. Before their date, Will's playing video games with her brother and appearing distracted, then he's inviting Jake and Evie to Grizzly Mountain to go skiing with them when we thought he'd invited Jessie there as a date, and saying he'll be Evie's personal skiing tutor. Why does everyone in this book like and flirt with someone else's bf/gf? And during that whole exchange, Jake, who dumped Jessie without even telling her and is now seeing Evie, is jealous of Will touching Jessie. He puts his arm around Evie after Will does it to Jessie.
On the plane Will sits beside Evie. I think he mistook making Jake jealous for trying to take his gf from him. What is wrong with all these people?

Jessie knew Will was pretending to be her bf, yet when he did things to act like a bf, she'd ask what he was doing and tell him to stop.

She was terrible for going to the wildlife sanctuary with Jake when Will asked her to go with him.
Jake, for being a supposed nice guy, sure didn't act like it. The way he dumped Jessie, and then is kissing, holding hands and hanging out with Jessie while being with Evie.

Her little brother Brian suddenly kept hanging out with a girl named Tiffany. I had no idea who it was. It took a little while to find out it was Evie's little sister. I thought him and Madison liked each other, who was Jake's little sister.

Tiffany sees Jake kiss Jessie and tells her sister. Jake breaks up with her in person. And despite them being together again, she's going with Will to the dance, just to make Sabrina mad.

What didn't add up is why, if Will is so popular, is he friends with Erin, who's friends with Jessie? Jessie was astonished anytime she was talking to Will or he was at her house, because he was so popular, so why was he hanging out with Erin?

At the dance, she tells Will it isn't the costume, it's him that Sabrina is jealous over, and he said she's not his type. Jessie tells him she realizes that,& I'm thinking when? How do you know his type when he flirts with everyone and you thought he liked Evie?

Apparently Cam and Sabrina broke up at the dance, and he goes and asks Abby to dance, as if that makes up for years of ditching her for Sabrina. Guys with mean girls look so stupid anyway. Why would he even be with her?
Then it turns into a bizarre Jessie apologizing to everyone thing, and I didn't know there were even any problems. She tries to be a better sister to her brother and I didn't know there was anything wrong with their relationship. Her brother is the one that kicks her,& is a little punk.
I don't like making friends with the mean girl. So I didn't care for her bringing them shakes and making nice with them.

She goes to break up with Jake,& he says "don't say it." Apparently he can't say or hear the words, even though he supposedly broke up with Evie in person. There isn't even a conversation. They both say sorry,& that's it. Not the big tell-off I wanted between them. Karma got him when he was dumped after dumping Jessie, though.

This started pretty good, wasn't having any major problems with it. And then everyone and everything started to become annoying until the whole thing actually sucked. The heroine was all over the place with what she wanted.

I wish she had dumped her ex and spent more time actually getting to know Will. She liked whoever she was with at the time.
We didn't get to know much about Will. I thought it was really cool how he was in the X Games,& wanted to win a medal for his town at the Olympics. That would have been cool to explore. We didn't even get to see him ski or snowboard hardly at all,& Jessie didn't even snowboard with him!

The synopsis was misleading. We knew from the get-go Evie wasn't Jake's cousin& that Jake had dumped Jessie. And it didn't mention anything about Will being her fake bf.
The synopsis sounded much better than this turned out to be, so I'm really disappointed about that.
With how screwed up everyone was in here, it wasn't even a romantic book.
One minute she wanted to break Jake and Evie up, the next she didn't want Evie to feel the way she had, then she'd go right back to trying to get Jake back.
One minute she liked Will, the next she told herself not to. This book was all over the place.

The dialogue wasn't great either. The conversations at times were inane. I found myself saying why is this person saying that? What do they mean?
She never told Jake off. I wanted her to give him a piece of her mind, but she was never truly mad at him or questioned him with a few basic questions that I feel any other normal person would ask: "Why didn't you break up with me?" "Are you dating Evie?"

It seemed like Jessie wasn't attracted to Will, nor him her. He was hard to get a read on. Maybe because he never came out and said he liked her. Erin said she'd try and find out if he liked Jessie or something about Will's intentions, but she never did.
The scenes of them eating/making ice cream, and Erin working at the resort became very repetitive. We're in Alaska; so let's see some of it! Idw be stuck in an ice cream shop or a hotel lobby, with Mean Agnes a threat away. That was repetitive also.

This could have been a cute, romantic winter read, but turned out to be an annoying read full of annoying, pathetic, wishy washy characters. It's like the publishers told her to write an unlikable character. I'm very disappointed with this. What could have been...

When Jessie’s boyfriend comes to her town for vacation, she has everything planned. Except for his new girlfriend,

I have always been a huge fan of the romantic comedy Young Adult novels, they are in the mass market paperback size and are quick reads. They are fun and easy, and such a cute story.

This one was no different. It was a fast read with good friends, a cozy setting and a happy ending. Also, the characters ate a lot of ice cream in this one and ice cream is my all time favorite food. So this book gets extra points.

Like a lot of the romantic comedy novels I have read, the writing quality wasn’t the best but that didn’t really matter to me. I really enjoyed this and found it be fun.

Jessie and her friends are a fun group, they have diverse personalities and they are there for each other. The boys are great, Will Parker = SWOON. Will and his friends are great but I wish we got to see more of them.

Jake sucked and I think he was supposed to, which is fine with me.

If you’re looking for a fun, cute and cozy romantic comedy I recommend this!

The main character was annoying and unlikeable. Will deserved someone way better, but he’s dumb to have put up with everything she did to him. Jesse is really dumb to go back to her ex who basically cheated on her and was too much of a coward to break up with her. And her and Will never even have a conversation about their feelings for each other, she just shows up with a love shake?? Tf?? She doesn’t even know what love is. I’m way too old for this book I guess bc I kept thinking about how dumb all these teenagers are.

We have Jessie who has discovered that her boyfriend has a new girlfriend without telling her. Jessie wants to win Jake back help him see she is the girl he wants so in a round about way Will Parker gets volunteered to make Jake jealous. Will Jessie win Jake back? Will she still want him if she does?
Very fun enjoyable read.

OK, so the plot was a bit cliché. I happen to like cliché when I read. The characters were fun, and if there was a downside, it was that we didn't get to see Will enough, in my opinion. If you're looking for a light-hearted read with a few interesting surprises, then check this out.

Review Posted on Reading Lark 12/21/15: http://readinglark.blogspot.com/2015/...

This is the second holiday novel of the season for me. If Hallmark and the Disney channel collaborated on a holiday movie, Snow in Love, would be it. This is a cotton candy sweet read full of holiday spirit, friendship, and romance.

Jessie Whitman lives in a small town in Alaska. As the winter holidays descend, she finds herself with more free time than usual as she works at her family ice cream shop and enjoys the school free days. She can't wait for her long distance boyfriend, Jake, to arrive, but things go south pretty quickly when Jessie learns that Jake has already arrived in town, but didn't call or text her. She doesn't know what to think and things take a turn for the worst when she finds Jake kissing a beautiful blond girl at a winter festival. Jessie is heartbroken and confused. How can someone break up with you without uttering a word?

Jessie struggles with her heartache and launches a plan with a local boy, Will, to make Jake jealous and show him what he is missing. Jessie doesn't plan on developing feelings for Will during the process, but she soon finds herself stuck between the guys and not knowing which one truly has her heart. I found Jessie to be selfish and fickle throughout a large part of the novel, but I was happy to see her finally start to make decisions and redeem herself by the end.

I never understood what Jessie saw in Jake in the first place. I found her Dad's assertions about him to be spot on. I couldn't figure out what about him was worth fighting for as I watched him mistreat both Jessie and his new girlfriend, Evie. I also loved Will from the first moment I met him and kept rooting for him to get his happy ending. As far as love triangles go, this one was weak and fairly predictable. I'm not a fan of the love triangle, but if it's going to exist, it would be better if both options were strong candidates.

In addition to the wintery romance elements, I loved the friendship between Jessie, Abby, and Erin. These girls support one another even when they don't see eye to eye. It's always nice to see positive female friendships.

Snow in Love also made me want to visit Alaska again. It's been years since I have been and I have never been in the winter, but this novel makes it seem like a magical winter wonderland full of possibilities.

If you're looking for a quick, sweet, cute holiday read, I'd recommend picking this one up.

Top 5 things on Jessie Whitman's to-do list:

1. Enjoy the three weeks off from school that living in Alaska offers every year.
2. Beat the unjustly perfect and obnoxiously rude Sabrina at the Annual Best Costume Contest, while wearing her best friend, Abby's, design.
3. Get to the bottom of why her boyfriend, Jake, hasn't been in contact with her. She can't let her friends be right in believing that he is too "wishy washy." Also, fill him in on all that's in store for him at the Northern Lights Ball.
4. Figure out this new girl, Evie, that Jake has brought along with him. It just can't be his new girlfriend... right?
5. Keep her dignity and composure while trying to accomplish all of this, trying not to resort in eating ice cream all the time when times get tough, just because there's such easy access. Well, maybe a little ice cream everyday won't hurt, just as long as she can fit into the dress for the Ball.

And oh yeah... try not to be one of those girls who fall madly in love with Will Parker - it's not like charm and hotness are everything!

This will be one winter break Jess will never forget. Just as long as she has her friends by her side and stays true to herself, everything will come out as she wants it to. Of course, this is easier said then done.

As her first debut for young adults, Claire Ray shows us that there is more to Alaska then just Sarah Palin. With friends who love her and guys who adore her, readers will want what's best for Jess. Cute, hilarious, and heartwarming, SNOW IN LOVE is the next ski read!

This was a really cute winter read. It's a lot like the small teen beach reads that aren't too emotionally investing but are light, fun, flirty, and always turn out all right in the end.

I enjoyed the characters, for the most part. Jessie, the narrator and protagonist was a pretty typical teenage girl who is in a long distance relationship and when he shows up in Alaska with a new girl, she reacts a lot like an average teenage girl would. I really wanted her to be stronger about what happened, but I'm sure I wouldn't have reacted any better than she did! I felt that she was pretty realistic and had her clever and funny moments, as well as a little attitude in her narrative voice, which I really appreciated. She was a little oblivious sometimes though! She also had two great friends to lean on who, although being pretty opposite people from each other, were fun and completed the friendship circle dynamic very well. Will, another friend, is very cute, very flirty, and I really liked him! He definitely provided some relief when I started to get a little tired of the story.

I had a few issues with the story because I have read a fair amount of books like this and it felt like the same storyline as all of those other ones. I did expect this though, so I wasn't too disappointed. I also felt like Jessie was waaaay overly cautious at times and it drove me a little crazy! There were also moments I was literally speaking to the book, saying "No, Jessie! No no no!". So I definitely didn't always agree with what she did! I did have a good giggle or two though, which was really enjoyable.
I have to give it 3 Stars.

I was sorely disappointed when I opened this book up. I expected paragraphs and full sentences. Instead, I got stanzas and verses. Did I mention that I hate poetry? However, though I was at first disappointed, at the end, I was pretty surprised at the interest the book had gained...from me! [of all people:] It was surprisingly quick and entertaining. I was able to finish this book in about 30 minutes even though it's a 400 page novel. The book also brought some tears to my eyes because while Alice was trapped in the car with her little sister and her new stepmom, she managed to stay courageous and faced issues that she had been avoiding. It was a book about miracles and about finding your own guardian angel. I highly, highly recommend this book.

This books was so sweet. It was Sweet Valley High meets some sort of foodie book. I love all the different ice-cream references. It made me hungry. Lol. Jessie lives in Alaska with her parents and works in the family ice-cream shop. It is winter break, and she finds herself in a love triangle. I love the humor and the characters that Ray writes. I would love to see a sequel. This book is amusing and appropriate (and I think relatable ) for teens and adults alike.

I got a little confused on the first part but i got along after pages,
so basically i love the story so much that i got to read it for a day.
it is very light and cute really cute that it made me giggle most of the time specially with Will and Jessica moments, i think it'll be more nice if Claire told the real deal between Jake and Jess, what happened with the silence between them at first and i wanted to see more of Will's , mixed gestures, i really like Will so much.
