As a self-learning resource, this book really does the trick. It explains the grammar thoroughly and has helpful exercises, but some of the vocabulary is outdated. I don't have very many complaints and it has helped me get acquainted with this difficult language very well. I recommend you use it as a supplementary resource to spend your own time on, while you are studying in a program or working with a teacher. This has been the most effective method for me.

Very dated examples, and some of the language is, my Polish friends tell me, almost obsolete. But the books are well structured and if you use this in company with the book 2 exercises, it is actually quite good if structured in a very traditional teaching way.
