This book is dated for sure. But I totally want a ferret. They are a lot of work and require serious interaction every day. This book gives details for care and behaviors. It may or may not help to decide whether a ferret is a good pet for you.

Nonfiction/Twin Text Entry #1

I chose this book because I think at both an intermediate and a primary level animals are a great subject matter to grasp kid's attention. It is a pretty straightforward book that discusses the anatomy of the animal and how to take care of them. While it may not seem to be the most exciting nonfiction book I think it leads to important discussions that need to occur at this age. Students start to find not only that interest in animals but also the interest in pets, this book is a great starter to a conversation about responsibility. Discussions about pets are great for not only responsibility but compassion and empathy for others.

I also picked that nonfiction because I thought it went great with my fiction choice of Adventure According to Humphrey by Betty Birney. I think this book was fantastic because it is a great starter into students reading chapter books. They are also extremely fun because it tells us the story of Humphrey's adventures that he gets into around the house. I loved this book already but then I found out it was a series which made it even better. Then if the student had fun reading this one they could continue on in the series.
