Bligh: A True Account of Mutiny Aboard His Majesty's Ship Bounty

Rate this book
On April 28, 1789, an impromptu mutiny unfolded in the remote reaches of the South Pacific. A British Admiralty vessel, H.M.S. Bounty, was commandeered by an aggrieved second-in-command, and her captain, William Bligh, was forced into an open boat with 19 other men and scant provisions. Here is the story of the events surrounding that fateful day, one of the most spellbinding accounts in maritime history.

An excellent read and done in fewer than 200 pages. This is a well researched, factual and objective history of the Bounty legend that covers: the voyage to Tahiti; the mutiny; Bligh's open boat return trip to Timor; the search for the mutineers by Capt. Edwards of the Pandora; the failed return voyage of the Pandora; the trial of the arrested mutineers; the search for a safe haven by the remaining mutineers; and their final years on Pitcairn Island. I've read other versions of the Bounty story but this one tops them based on the author's research and objectivity.

I am going to get the little
Compasses in the maps tattooed on my wrist. I really enjoyed this! Did a lot of history searches while reading this. Never saw any of the movies - don't really want to now! Excited to
start the Girl from Botany Bay now that she had been introduced to me from this book!
