I had picked this book as a candidate for recording for our radio listening service. However, while I enjoyed the story, I believe it was just a little too "British" for some of our listeners. I think they would have difficulty grasping some of the colloquialisms added by the author. Still, for the rest of us, it is a good light read targeting younger readers, but entertaining for all ages.
I have completely forgotten about this book. I`ve read it a loooooong time ago, maybe even more than a decade ago. Anyway, I`ve forgotten everything about it, until recently. I was in the bookstore, browsing, trying to resist the urge to buy everything, when I spotted it on a shelf. I couldn`t remember what it was about, just that I was left speechless when I was ten years old. So, I bought it to read it to my brother, and, now, I can`t remember what it was about it that enchanted me. I am older, but I don`t think I`ve lost my child persona entirely. Anyway, I liked it as much as I could and am glad my brother enjoyed it.
