Throughout her dazzling career, bestselling author Jill Marie Landis has consistently written stories filled with unforgettable sensuality, creating characters whose vibrant emotions instantly sweep you into their lives. Now in Heat Wave , Landis turns up the heat and delivers her most riveting novel yet.

Private investigator Kat Vargas once cared about someone so much it hurt. Once she lived a dream life with her first love and fiancé—until betrayal followed by shattering tragedy ended it all. Kat has sworn never to get too close to anyone again. But now the peace and quiet of Twilight Cove is driving the straight-talking, no-nonsense P.I. crazy. Then a prospective new client shows up at the door. Moved by his stubbornness and sincerity, Kat takes his case, breaking a promise to relax, recoup, and rethink her solitary life.

Ty Chandler is desperate to locate the child he fathered nineteen years ago—a child he never knew existed until now. Although he’s no stranger to heartache, he is irresistibly drawn to the exotic, vibrantly alluring P.I. Their search not only leads them to Ty’s troubled, strong-willed daughter, but into each others’ arms. Though Kat courageously works to help Ty reunite his family, she’s terrified of confronting a painful secret of her own—one that will cost her the love of the only man capable of tearing down the walls she’s built around her heart.

From the tranquil beaches of the central California coast to the fast and furious streets of L.A., Heat Wave is a passionate and heartfelt story of families divided and brought back together, the magic of hope for new beginnings, and the overwhelming power love has to heal even the most battered hearts.

I read Heat Wave back in 2008 and thought it was a good book. I used to read Jill Marie Landis as often as she would release a book but have to stay it has been a while since I have read anything current. She is a good writer and I will be going back to 2008 and catching up on her books.

** "Heat Wave" is a modern California romance with bachelor raising teenager and baby complications, dragged down below light. Author Jill Landis brings handsome outdoorsman Ty from Alaska, back to her lovingly described home west coast to bury his mother and trace her secret, his now nineteen-year old daughter Sunny. He enlists graceful exotic PI Kit. Five years in the state from Hawaii (another Landis home), Kit escaped a faithless fiancee, an auto accident terminated pregnancy, and smothering supportive family. But she refuses to let go the past, dwelling and escalating nightmares to insomnia. Sunny's shifty illegal racing pals escalate to grand theft auto, blackmailing her with the safety of her baby. To me, Landis grinds down my opinion of Kit, with thongs (a wedgy is so not sexy), sex on the second day, and primarily her past in tedious monotony. I skipped alot in this and Lover's Lane, but Orchid Hunter was amazing and Magnolia Creek good.

When I see a Jill Marie Landis book, I think of her Tiki Goddesses series and I expect laughter. This book though is quite serious, dealing with serious emotions: love betrayed and it really does a number on the person, secrets kept that really should not have been, hints of loving someone who is considered inappropriate for you, trusting others, and, most importantly, redemption.

I'd recommend it for others. It's not hard to read, and it is quite good.

My first Jill Marie book. A good read.

A chance meeting of the two main characters which lead them both into a huge adventure.

Lost child, but found two fast cars and crime. Gun shots and wounds. And lots of love to go around. Thrilling stuff. A year in the life of a PI.
Thankfully Kat came to her senses and returned to Twilight.

Lots of emotions triggered in this story. I Laughed and cried, and had a few oh my goodness moments.
I’ll have to check out another Landis novel.

Twilight Cove Series I just love all three books in the series. They are all very satisfying!
The each have their own mysteries and people who need to reconcile past and try again.
The all take place on the mid to southern coast of California. Surprizes and good information about each areas. I really enjoy Jill Landis books!

I reached for the box of tissues on several occasions while reading Heat Wave. Loved the book and I love the writing style of Jill Marie Landis.

I was immediately sucked into the story as Private Investigator Kat Vargas rushes out to meet a client who has followed her cheating husband to a motel. Things turn from bad to worse as the confrontation leaves Kat with a gunshot to her hand. Her partner, Jake, convinces her to take it easy for a few weeks and house sit at his home in Twilight Cove while he and his family are on vacation. Well, that was the plan anyway. Relax? Take it easy? Needless to say, that doesn't happen. Right away her solitude is broken by handsome Ty Chandler who recently found out that he has a daughter and wants desperately to find her. Not only does Kat help Ty find his daughter, they also discover he has a granddaughter as well. But life is not very sunny for his daughter with that same name. "Sunny" that is.

Jill Marie Landis brought together well-defined characters, each with their own stories. As those stories unfolded, these characters were brought together in an action packed and yet heartwarming adventure. There was love, heat, hesitation and lots of tingles! The romance was beautifully written and flowed naturally. Loved it!

This book was a good listen. Somewhat predictable with a few surprises. PI Kat Vargas finds herself involved with one of her clients and the when the results of her investigation turn up a few surprises life gets complicated. New relationships, old baggage, and a little crime made it interesting. I gave it three stars only because there was nothing earth shattering about it, it was just entertaining and a distraction which was all I was looking for!

PI Kat Vargus, beautiful, lonely, once heartbroken now wary, is resting up from a job related injury. She isn't supposed to be working but a gorgeous, eligible and nice man shows up at her door seeking her help to find the daughter he has just found out that he has.
Sound goofy? It is, but it is also enjoyable, I read it straight through.

Picked it up randomly on CD set from the library. And it turned out pretty good. The characters were easy to get to know. However the end did drag a bit.
