I would have liked to give this book 3 stars... the author obviously has been a dedicated and knowledgeable fan of the Mets for a long time and his sense of their history and his opinions are enjoyable parts of the book. And he gets extra points for a clear disdain for the Yankees. However, he spends very little time on the 2000 World Series... I'm sure it's due to trying to bury the memory of that particular Fall Classic. But I would've liked several more pages on that at least. And there is little mention at all of the Clemens/Piazza drama. That's another big miss. There are also parts of book that bog down in the cardinal sin of baseball writing....dry, lifeless, headspinning text of play by play rehashing that leaves the reader yawning and checking out emotionally.
