Written by David West and illustrated by Mike Lacey, The Bermuda Triangle is a part of the graphic mysteries series. This 45 page graphic novel is composed of three stories that narrate true events that took place in the Triangle and facts and theories about the mysterious nature of the region. The first story is about the disappearance of the crew on the Carroll A Deering schooner in 1920. In 1921 the ship was found abandoned near the western tip of the Bermuda Triangle. Because the crew was never found, investigators believe the ship was hijacked by pirates or overtaken by an angry crew member during its course back to Norfolk, Virginia. The second story is about the disappearance of Flight 19 on December 5 1945. Once over the western edge of the Triangle the head pilots compass became dysfunctional and he lost all radio contact with his home base. In the resulting search of Flight 19 no plane wreckage or life jacket was ever found. The final story is about Captain Don Henry's successful navigation out of a sudden fog that seemed to disrupt his ships electronic devices. This graphic novel was a quick and interesting read. Although the language is simple the illustrations are sophisticated enough to appeal to an older audience. The visuals enhanced the text by providing the reader with an idea of how the real subjects felt. I liked how the author followed up with possible logical explanations for the events that have occurred in the Triangle while still maintaining a sense of mystery. I would recommend this novel to anyone who has an interest in the Bermuda Triangle and enjoys reading folklore.
Thos book talks about the Bermuda Triangle and gives background information on it, then has three different stories of happenings/incidents at sea. The Bermuda Triangle is a triangle between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. It is known to have storms, supernatural occurrences, loss of communications, etc. Many people have sailed or flown into it, and never been found again, evidence of wrecks can't be found either. The first story is a crew that set sail to Rio, arrive, and when they are heading home they end up "losing control of their boat" or being forced off, so they escaped/left on the lifeboats, and were never found again. The second story is about a group of military planes in training, they fly out on their test course, but lose communication and discover they are in the Bermuda Triangle, even the search planes that went after them got blown up from storms. The third story is about a boat that is sailing in peaceful waters, all of their electronics go off and their compass starts freaking out and goes wrong just like it did in the previous two stories, the captain starts to not be able to tell the difference between the water and everything else, it all gets foggy and white, he realises that he is in the Bermuda Triangle and he eventually gets the boat out.
I recommend this book since it kind of got me interested in the Bermuda Triangle and taught me a little about it since I had like no background information on the topic and got me to want to learn about it more.
