This book (written in 1983) has great info about using marker as a medium for design illustrations. Considering the diversity of markers that now exist, Kemnitzer presents some great ways to plot out how to set up and approach a project from the use of markers to the surfaces and techniques on masking etc….
The chapters are: Techniques of visual illusion, Materials, Selecting views/Creating the Drawing, Marker Application, Defining Forms with Marker, Masking/Blending/ and Editing, Simulating Materials, Backgrounds and Special Effects.
Another thing I like is that he shows how to use other media (color pencil and even pastels) to help delineate or smooth shapes.
So, while this might not seem to old a book to use - I found it good to read as it was concise and clear. And also, as there weren’t as many options as there are now- it’s actually helped by making the focus a bit less about all the options as much as how to use alcohol based markers.
It certainly has helped me quickly and also the ideas presented could also be used in other media.
