This God we worship is a mysterious, incomprehensible God. His love, His patience, His holiness, His power, His purposes, and His wisdom will forever leave us in a state of astonished wonder. Yet . . . the Bible tells us that we truly can "taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8). Draw closer to the Lord your God. How can you go about "tasting" God? By stepping beyond your regular times of Bible reading and prayer to thoughtfully, worshipfully meditate on Him. If you want to draw closer to His majesty, you must actually come into His presence. And Close to His Majesty was written to help you do exactly that. Taste God's goodness for yourself through fifteen worshipful meditations on the attributes of God by beloved Bible teacher David Needham--and experience what it really means to draw Close to His Majesty.
David C. Needham was an American theologian, pastor, and educator whose career centered on teaching and Christian ministry. Raised in California, he studied at Westmont College before continuing his theological training at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he prepared for pastoral service. He began ministry as director of youth and Christian education at Vista Community Church and later became pastor of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Laguna Beach. In 1963 he joined the faculty of Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, where he taught theology for forty-four years and eventually became professor emeritus. Needham also taught adult Bible classes and authored several theological books, including Birthright, Close to His Majesty, Alive for the First Time, and How Does it Look From the Top of the Wall.
One of my all-time favorite books. Great illustrations, and a pace that does not get bogged down. I have reread this book over and over again and I still come back to it for encouragement
I just finished the book, and I am crying and speechless. I am so thankful for God inspiring David Needham to write this book. No matter what your state of mind is right now, treat yourself to a journey beyond your imagination by reading Close to His Majesty. Make sure you have tissue nearby. 🤧
