This book was a pleasant surprise that details the life and experiences of fighters and fights captured beautifully in black and white by the photographer Charles Hoff. I love the sweet science but over the years it has gone from the main event, to a sport that is very much a niche community. That said, this book perfectly captures that which means so much to those who are fans of the sport and enjoy reading and viewing it. Capturing these photographs from the 1930’ through the 1960’s one needs to remember that the technology to capture these was not at the level we have now, and that anticipation as well as angle was essential and not to be underappreciated. I loved the format and the way it is all presented. Very much in line with the era that the stories depict and the pictures capture. I think one of the coolest gems of this book is one of the articles is written by James Baldwin! To me, that alone would have been worth the book!
