Alexander Demandt ist ein deutscher Althistoriker, der vor allem über Römische Geschichte und Römische Kulturgeschichte sowie über geschichtstheoretische Themen publiziert. Er lehrte von 1974 bis 2005 als Professor für Alte Geschichte am Friedrich-Meinecke-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin.

I first discovered this book when it was referenced on Khan Academy, in the article 'READ: The Fall of Rome', in Unit 4, in the course 'World History Project - Origins to the Present'. The article states that this book contains a list of two hundred and ten (210) reasons that historians have given for the fall of the Roman Empire, "from taxes to hypothermia to public baths".
