Beautiful illustrations.

My favourite fact: Oregan Juncos can produce more varied, pleasing and creative songs when removed from natural environments where they would otherwise learn how to sing.

Rather enjoyable little paperback book, with full colour illustrations on every page. This book covers every aspect of bird behaviour including breeding, preening, imprinting, nest-building, egg incubation, migration, song, feeding. Although rather geeky and academic in nature, this is a very accessible read, split into many short chapters and sub-chapters, covering every kind of bird under the sun. Although I'm pretty knowledgeable about such matters, there was still a few details here that were new to me, and plenty of species that I had never heard of. The illustrations are very clear, helpful and especially well-drawn. I only wish it was a bigger glossy book and about 20% longer. Recommended. 4.25/5

Cristen found this book at a book exchange. I initially paged through it looking at the artwork which I think is really good. I ended up reading the whole thing. Although it is 50+ years old, I found it interesting and learned some things.
