The authors offer a new set of principles for matching food and wine; as the title suggests, these are not bound by tradition. Their approach is to have the reader try suggested food and wine matches to see what makes them work well (or not so well). There are 75 recipes included. Some of the wines suggested will be difficult for the average reader to find. The authors lean towards self-indulgence at times.

The strategies the authors provide are easy to remember and almost fail safe
10/10

This is a bible for anyone interested in wine and food pairing. It takes a bit of time to learn, but the strategies the authors provide are easy to remember and almost fail safe.

A great idea that fell flat
6/10

I liked the idea of what they were trying to accomplish, and both men are very knowledgeable and passionate about their field of expertise in food and wine, however the presentation came across as a little flat, it needed more work and a more exciting way of telling their story, and theory of pairing food with wine in unconventional ways.

Easy to Follow
10/10

I once went to a wine tasting hosted by Joshua Wesson and after tasting a ho hum cookie and then sampling the wine Mr. Wesson paired with the cookie, it took on a whole new dimention. I immediately had great respect for his ability to pair food with wine.

Neither the wine nor the cookie had any special qualities but together they were wonderful.

old book but decent reference
6/10

Book is ok if not a bit dated.
Got the title from a list of books after I took a course on wines.
Nice reference to have but I think there are likely more contemporary books out there.
