Vanishing Magic

Rate this book
Edward and his grandfather enjoyed living in their small house, Number Six Farthing Row. It was part of one of those little rows of houses by a small common which are tucked away in odd corners of London. So they were both upset when the Council said they must move... Farthing Row was to be redeveloped.

At first, it seemed that there was nothing to be done. But when Edward broke his glasses helping Miss Rose Witcham (from Number One), and Miss Lily Witcham 'mended' them, everything suddenly changed. For the Witcham sisters were... well... witchy, and the new spectacles were quite remarkable. Edward found he could go back through time wearing them and soon he and Meg (from Number Five) had embarked on a scarifying series of excursions to other times, in an increasingly desperate attempt to find some way of saving Farthing Row.

Elisabeth "Liza" Beresford MBE was a British author of children's books, best known for creating The Wombles. Born into a family with many literary connections, she worked as a journalist but struggled for success until she created the Wombles in the 1960s. The strong theme of recycling was particularly notable, and the Wombles became very popular with children across the world. While Beresford produced many other literary works, the Wombles remained her most well known creation.
