just supposed to scan this while planning yet another japan trip, accidentally read the whole thing. kurokawa was a very interesting architect and thinker. prior to this, i had no idea just how much of the movement was rooted in buddhism. enjoyed pondering some of his ideas: engawa, living with architecture as opposed to living inside and outside of it, the architecture of the street, etc. fascinating to compare what the metabolists had in mind for the future vs what actually happened - some things they got right, some wrong, others remain to be seen. rip nakagin capsule tower building (1972-2022), just happy i got to see you in 2019

Brilliant insights to the possible future of the built environment. Quite possibly a potential solution to achieving net zero carbon footprint in the built environment industry. A good introduction to metabolist architecture for those interested.
