Schnitzels First Christmas written in Dutch would appeal to many children who have dreams of soft, fluffy puppies. The book appears to tell the story of a puppy and his dreams about Christmas. He seems to consult other animal friends and wonders what they would like. He also seems a bit concerned about his behavior because when Santa Claus shows up he bows his head. Santa brings him a gift of a second adorable puppy-friend and Schnitzel runs off to play. Illustrated with soft-edged pictures and bright colors, this book would make a good read aloud for pre-readers. Although I'm unable to read the text, the syntax seems to be advanced and the quantity of words on the page tends to be lengthy. Due to the length of sentences and the need to follow a sentence to the next line, this text would be be appropriate for those reading independently grades 1.5 -3 or for a read aloud ages 3-8.

okay so i totally just read this to add onto my dying goodreads goal but... this was adorable. i chose a french children's book so i wouldn't be totally cheating and i did totally read it in french, but i understood most of it and this was SO CUTE. if you have any interest in reading a french children's book, this was adorable. i'm reminded to be excited about christmas even though i'm quarantined right now and i'm very sad and lonely and unchristmasy

I always like to start the year reading children's stories, not only to remember my own childhood, but mostly because I miss my Granddaughters and I love reading out to them!

This was the first book in a long time that I read in Dutch! What a nice surprise to be able to read it so easily!!! Incredible, since I only learned a bit of Dutch when I was young... I LOVE the language and everything Dutch! Pity that this edition does not show the lovely pictures of the book!!! So I changed here for the English version, which shows the marvelous cover, but I read the other one!

Schnitzel is one of the cutest animated dogs there is. I loved as a kid seeing all the different things he already has and having no clue what he could get for Christmas. I thought the ending was better then most books with this dilemma.

Definitely a German based book. Schnitzel is adorable and the busy season is well represented, as is the importance of friendship.

The girls enjoyed this, but I didn’t love the idea of a puppy as a gift. I thought it was going to be the gift of time with his family, but apparently puppy neglect equals more puppies.

** spoiler alert ** Bonbon menghadapi Natal pertamanya. Semua binatang lain di sekitarnya sudah tau apa yang mau diminta kepada Santa Claus tapi Bonbon tidak. Udah mikir lama, nanya-nanya, tetep aja ga ada ide. Dia jadi sedih karena waktu untuk meminta hadiah sudah lewat. Tengah malam dia terbangun dan bertemu Santa Claus. Santa Claus nyadar Bonbon ga ada di daftar peminta kado dan nanya kenapa lalu dia ketawa setelah tahu penyebabnya. Lalu dia memberi kado kepada Bonbon.

Kado terindah: seekor teman.
