Wes Rawlins couldn't respond fast enough to Sheriff Boudreau's telegram for help, and by the time the Texas Ranger arrived, Boudreau was murdered and his homestead hinted at a haunting cover-up. But how can Wes scratch the surface of the surly atmosphere when Yankee beauty Aurora Sinclair is tempting him with a sly seduction that leaves him immobile yet suspicious? Aurora might be the suspect in this Texan puzzle but Wes is more focused on luring her into his arms than into a pair of handcuffs.

Adrienne deWolfe is the #1 bestselling author of action-packed Historical Romance novels, where feisty Heroines buck the conventions and true Heroes must be wickedly funny. Her critically acclaimed series include Wild Texas Nights, Velvet Lies, and Lady Law & The Gunslinger.

When Adrienne’s not writing, she can often be found dragging her sopping-wet feline out of the bathtub. (Because Krazy Kat — who thinks she’s a shark — gets her kitty jollies by cannon-balling into the water while Adrienne’s soaking in it.)

On other days, Adrienne wages war with her printer. (You think we jest? See her post, “Help! My Printer Has a Poltergeist!” at http://writingnovelsthatsell.com/humo... )

Fascinated by all things mystical, Adrienne writes a blog about dragons, magic, haunted pizza, the Universal Law of Attraction, and other weirdness she can’t explain at http://MagicMayhemBlog.com.

She also writes a blog featuring tips about the business of writing at http://WritingNovelsThatSell.com, where you’ll find lots of writing resources. She enjoys mentoring aspiring authors and offers professional fiction-coaching.

I'm not going to lie. I could easily go on an Adrienne deWolfe reading binge. She knows her era well and deftly pieces together passionate love stories... Even her pen name is cool.

This historical western romance captured my interest and kept it until the very last page! It did have a few twists that aren't normally found in historical western romance, such as divorce and a romance between an older woman and younger man. Wes was such a lovable and charming bad boy, with a weakness for misfits and the hard headed woman, Aurora (Rorie), who loved and watched over them. The secondary characters were as well drawn as the primary ones. What I especially liked about this book, was that it reminded me, that most people are never all good or all bad. Mind you, I said most people. Read the book, and find out what I mean for yourself. You're in for a treat.

Great love story!

This is my first review, but I just had to add my two cents worth. I found this story very exciting with a lot of action and the romance was very fun to watch the two lovers to figure out what they both wanted.

This was my first read from author Adrienne deWolfe and I’m soooo glad I was introduced to her in a recent blog hop. I really love historical western romance and I have found a shining star in that genre! The story flowed seamlessly so that I had to read it from start to finish in two late-night sittings. There was delicious romance with just the right amount of angst and frustration, push and pull from the hero (Wes) and the heroine (Rorie). There was a bully or two that made for some exciting action, and there were surprises galore. And let’s not forget the heartwarming family of runaway and throwaway children that were an emotional glue in the story, oh my! Yes indeed, this was a lovely, lovely story and now I can’t wait to read the rest of this author’s books. Thank you, Adrienne!

Western romance that addresses prejudices

This is an unusual story about a woman who had so much love to give she took in orphaned children no matter race or affiliation. She didn't have very good luck with the men in her life , but she still desperately wanted a husband and a father for the children she loved. She however thought she need to listen to her head instead of her heart in order to get that stability. Wes had to prove her wrong. Well worth reading.

Not as good as the first one, but better than the third one. I secretly love deWolfe. Her writing is addicting.
