Pony Club Camp
For the Pony Club Members it's the high spot of the summer. Out come the tents and sleeping bags and torches. Into boxes go grooming kits, headcollars, mugs and plates, haynets, pyjamas and buckets. Children and ponies arrive in one glorious great confusion as camp begins at last.
The first night is full of surprises! A week of mounted games, jumping, schooling, picnic rides and midnight feats is crowned by the Pony Club Gymkhana - and some very surprising results.

70 books18 followersThe Pullein-Thompson sisters — Josephine Pullein-Thompson MBE (3 April 1924-[1]), Diana Pullein-Thompson (born 1 October 1925) [2] and Christine Pullein-Thompson (1 October 1925–2 December 2005[2] — are British writers of several horse and pony books (mostly fictional) aimed at children and mostly popular with girls. They started at a very young age (initially writing collectively) and they were at their peak in the 1950s and 1960s, but their popularity has endured. They have written a collective autobiography Fair Girls and Grey Horses.
All 3 sisters have written at least 1 book under a different name; Josephine wrote 1 under the pseudonym of Josephine Mann, Diana 3 books under her married name of Diana Farr and Christine wrote 2 books under the name of Christine Keir.
Their mother, Joanna Cannan (1898–1961), sister of the poet May Cannan, wrote similar equestrian stories, but is better known for detective mysteries.

Josephine Pullein-Thompson's 'Pony Club' books are something else; if you're after deeply practical information about horse-care mixed up with chaotic tumbles of adventure, lashings of unbearably romantic shenanigans (I have never swooned so much at a suggested kiss as I did in the conclusion to this book), and numerous ponies with small riders who fall off and fall off with gleeful abandon, then this is it. It's honestly a stone cold classic.
Furthermore, it's a very particular kind of stone cold classic, namely one that will make absolutely no sense to anybody who isn't vaguely familiar with the topic. This is a book for people in the (pony) club. And I'm not trying to mark that as a problem because, if I'm honest, I rather love it. It's so unashamed and so honest and so delightful about it. This is a book for people who want horses, who get horses, who live for twisted snaffles, and Pullein-Thompson just goes "Well, that's EXACTLY how it should be" and gives it to her readers in spades. Or forks. And it's lovely.

I love this book so much, it is my favorite book in my favorite pony book series and it never fails to make me happy!
The last chapter of the West Barsetshire Series sees our usual crew getting all ready to head off to pony club camp.
Noel & Henry are now both out of school, with Henry having joined the army and Noel floating about at home doing something horsey.
Major Holbrooke finally succumbs to the demands for a pony camp and it is literally the best thing ever.
Noel & Henry are both working as staff for the camp and we're then provided with some of the regular characters that we know well and some new ones. It can be a bit hard to keep track of the 20 campers and their horses, but it doesn't take anything away from the experience.
This book is pure feel good fun and a really satisfying conclusion to the series. Plus of course those hints at the *kiss* which totally happened!
