I remember hearing Paul Harvey's "The Rest Of The Story " on the radio when I was growing up. In my 20's I somehow found a paperback with some of those stories, including a very unusual tale of the man who would become Coronal Sanders. Every so often I would check to see if my library had anything else and a few weeks ago I found "Destiny".
Written by Paul's son, there are 103 stories in this small book. Most are just 2 pages long and end with the famous, "The Rest of The Story". A few favorites include a child abuse case that was brought to justice by the man who founded the ASPCA and one about a woman who needed money to save her house and was saved by Jessie James.
With everyone having access to the internet now, it makes me wonder about the validity of the stories and if they are true.
103 short stories - some uplifting, some downers, some a bit of a miss, many just perfect. I grew up hearing Paul Harvey tell these on the radio, and was delighted to find that they'd been put together in books. Really enjoyed this book, though I felt that too many of the tales were downers for my taste. Definitely aimed at an American audience, though a fair few are universal.
This is somewhat disappointing. This is not, as the cover would have one believe, the true stories behind history's greatest mysteries. It's instead a mostly disappointing collection of minor trivia, many of which aren't worth the length they're given. As a student of history, I was hoping for much more.
Although The Rest of the Story is always interesting, this book contained what I assume are the one's that didn't make the cut for the first two books....interesting, but not AS interesting as others.
Rob read this book out loud to me over the course of several months and we both really enjoyed it. Each story is done in the format of Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story", which made the stories even more interesting.
Like "The Rest of the Story", good light reading. Unlike many light readers, though you can't read far without learning something worthwhile for the soul.
