Discusses the racialised and brutal nature of labour exploitation in that sector in the Broome area, and the social consequences of these practices, such as the creation of a racially segregated community.

Very interesting read of early Broome. Life would have been very difficult as a diver or someone on a lugger. Descriptions of old Broome are fascinating and the photos are great.
