None of the characters come out of this looking very admirable, do they?
Our protagonist Katsura is dwelling on his own (severe) anxieties and the pressure of his new position as assistant captain of the archery team, a sport he still struggles to master. He is often insensitive and reacts poorly when surprised.
Sou, last year's assistant captain, is now in a relationship with Katsura and is pressuring him to be more sexually active and out-of-the-closet than he is comfortable with (or has time for: homework). He is older, the best friend of Katsura's older brother, and more confident, and their relationship does not seem very equal. For any readers starting here instead of with book 1, Sou admitted that he had been .
Katsura's brother only has a small page time here and I can't recall how much he knew about what was going on between his friend and brother, so I'll suspend any judgment.
The new captain, Kouichi, is the guy who came on to Katsura before. He seemed manipulative and unreliable before and still does, but also like he sincerely cares about Katsura and may be heading in a more mature direction now that he has some responsibilities. I'm interested to see how this character develops.
The new guy (I think he's new? I don't recall him at all) Matsunae seems arrogant and rude, especially for a first year in a school culture where students are expected to have respect for upper classmen.
This series is more Teen Drama than I was expecting, but it is well drawn and I like how much nuance the characters have.

One of my favorites. As far as yaoi books go this one was almost perfect. It pulled me in and moved me. It wasn't rushed or anything and that’s what makes it so good. It will forever have a spot on my book shelf.
