If the third volume of Ludwig Revolution establishes anything, then that Ludwig is just a loveable dummy inside.

So, this Volume goes away from the bride search of the first two. We are briefly introduced to the tale of Hänsel and Gretel, the darkest yet. It’s without humor and tells just a very sad story about two siblings, trauma and a psychological break down. Like Lisette those two also have surprising childhood ties with Ludwig, which causes major conflict when they try to finish their job. Their designs are also pretty damn amazing, especially Hänsel‘s.

The rest of the Volume tells the story of Cinderella. Here the poor maiden is a kind, yet slightly masochistic girl, you can’t help but still like. She is adorable in her own way. The Stepmother is weak and has no say on anything and the Wicked Stepsisters are pretty and not as terrible as they are in the fairytale.

The biggest surprise comes probably in from of Prince Charming, here called Balduin, who offers the biggest, most random and hilarious plot twist yet.

Ludwig, Will and Dorothea take on the role of Cinderella‘s fairy godmothers here and it‘s as crazy and adorable as you can imagine.

There are some interesting details about Lisette‘s past revealed, that kind of soften Lui‘s cruel prank in their childhood and her real reason for hating him is revealed. It comes as no surprise.

Like the other volumes this is stylistic, darkly humorous and offers amazing alternative takes on classic fairytales.

Lui, who is probably the best dressed fairytale prince ever, continues to develop into a direction that is highly different from what was originally expected. He is such a great character to follow, that alone is worth a read.

Ludwig Revolution 3: 4 Stars
[6.58 - really great!]

I just find this series so endearing and enjoyable. Wilhelm is still the best - i love him. The first chapter was hansel and gretel and I LOVED it. completely.
Chapters 2 through 4 are Cinderella and I also highly enjoyed this version of cinderella.
The lovely gore and the fun twists on these fairytales being accompanied by characters I've grown to love in a fantasy setting that has a lot of political intrigue. YES.
This one also didn't really have any of the over the top and problematic stuff that I disliked in the past. Such fun!!!

One thing that really recommends a book to me is some relation to fairy tales. Ludwig Revolution is a manga which has many such retellings, such as Snow White, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, Hansel & Gretel and Red Riding Hood. In the past, I had read another manga, called Grimms Manga, attempting the same thing but I was rather disappointed. Luckily, this wasn't the case here, although I have to admit that I didn't expect what I got to read.

Prince Ludwig along with his loyal servant Wilhelm go on a journey, in order to find a suitable wife for the prince. Naturally, most of those maids happen to be the well-known characters from the fairy tales. Each princess/character has at least a chapter that develops her story. But like the originals the stories take dark and twisted turns. Nothing is like it seems and no-one is as virtuous as was expected. Indeed, Ludwig himself has a tendency towards necrophilia, Snow White sleeps with her father, Red Riding Hood killed her parents and Hansel and Gretel are assassins.

I wasn’t as into this as I was with the other volumes. The chapters about Cinderella were some of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. It was all very bizarre, especially when it came to the prince. When the whole thing with ‘Isolde’ was revealed, I burst out laughing because of how random and unexpected it was. I seriously flipped a couple pages back to make sure I had read that situation correctly. I liked the interactions between Aschen and the prince, but I thought that everything else wasn’t that interesting. I felt like the retelling could’ve been done in a chapter or two instead of being stretched out into three. The plotline involving Hansel/Gretel and Ludwig was what really killed this volume for me. It got super complicated and convoluted and I found myself wanting to skim past the panels because I was so bored. I wanted to read less about the assassins and more about Ludwig going on his search for a bride.

Tapi artworknya sih, tetep juara.
