Daisy Meadows is the pseudonym used for the four writers of the Rainbow Magic children's series: Narinder Dhami, Sue Bentley, Linda Chapman, and Sue Mongredien. Rainbow Magic features differing groups of fairies as main characters, including the Jewel fairies, Weather fairies, Pet fairies, Petal fairies, and Sporty fairies.
Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton, England on November 15, 1958. She received a degree in English from Birmingham University in 1980. After having taught in primary and secondary schools for several years she began to write full-time. Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.
Sue Bentley was born in Northampton, England. She worked in a library after completing her education and began writing for children once her own began school. Bentley is the author of the Magic Kitten, Magic Puppy, and S Club series and lives in Northamptonshire.
Linda Chapman has written over 50 children's fiction books, including the following series: My Secret Unicorn, Stardust, Not Quite a Mermaid, and Unicorn School. She lives in Leicestershire with her husband and daughters.
Sue Mongredien was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham, England. She has published over 100 children's books, including the following series: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, The Magic Key, Frightful Families, and Oliver Moon. She has also contributed many titles to the Sleepover Club series and written picture books. Mongredien created the Royal Ballet School Diaries under the pen name Alexandra Moss. She lives with her family in Bath, England.
Kirsty and Rachel want to help the Music Fairies find their magical instruments since Jack Frost and the goblins took them. While they were finding the fairy, Danni’s, magical drum set, Kirsty and Rachel got invited to be in a music video. As they were dancing along, they spied a goblin and knew that Danni’s miniature drum set was close by. After some searching, they spied Danni’s drum set, but the life-size goblins were trying to play them. In order to get her drums back, Danni shrunk the goblin down to the same size as the tiny set. The girls grabbed the mini goblin and told him that they would turn him back to size if he gave the set back. The goblin agreed and Danni was able to bring the drum set back to Fairyland.
The Rainbow Fairies series includes a plot suitable for readers who are beginning with chapter books. Specifically in Danni the Drum Fairy, the plot was predictable but lacked suspense or excitement. The storyline was dull. For example, when the girls wanted to get the drum set back in their possession, they easily captured the goblin with very little effort or creativity. This chapter book also included illustrations that were scattered throughout which aids comprehension. There are a substantial amount of books in this series which allows readers a variety. Additionally, within the sequence there are miniseries which can entice readers if they do not want to commit to reading an entire lengthy series.
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
I'm enjoying the music fairy series. The premise of the evil(ish) goblins being so enthusiastic about forming a band is fun. I like that the goblins have more speaking time than in some other series. The disguises make the hunt for the goblins new and interesting, and the face-to-face interactions force the girls to outthink them in a different way. Our daughter is laughing. We're laughing. I'm impressed by the music fairy series, and this is one of the books that stands out within the series.
I definitely liked this one more than the previous three. The drums that couldn't get bigger was an interesting idea and conjuring other instruments to take the attention off of them was quite amusing too.

This is the fourth book of seven in the "Music Fairies" series by the group of authors who go by the name Daisy Meadows. It's a fun series, especially for young girls who are starting to read chapter books. Our oldest is addicted and I am encouraging it since I am confident that these books will help her develop a love for reading! She reads them on her own and will sometimes read aloud to me. I have been reading them along with her (at first I was irritated by them, but now they amuse me and they only take about 5 minutes to read). We will discuss the plots, her favorite parts and what we think will happen later in the series. We've read through several of these series of books and our oldest is determined to read them all. I love it!
Rachel and Kristy are performing in a music show. At intermission, they find a goblin with Danni's magical drums. Then, they find Danni. The drums are still fairy land size but the goblins are human sized. Danni uses magic to make instruments in another room. Two of the goblins go away, but the goblin with the drums stays to guard the drums. Danni said she would make the drums bigger but she actually shrinks the goblins so the drums will be easier to get away from him. Kristy grabs the goblin, and Rachel grabs the drums. They give the drums back to Danni and let the goblin run away back to Jack Frost's ice castle.
