Fantastic, simple (visual) way to understand and remember the difference between Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Values.

Together with The On-Purpose Person, this provides an easy-to-read (parable format) story to get more focused on what's the wise thing to do, and avoid the typical Dilbert Mission Statement Generator declaration.

Instead, your Purpose will essentially be boiled down to two (yes, TWO!) key words that are unique to you or your business. And you'll identify what your vision(s) are, what your missions are, and clarify your values to know what's really important.

It's a quick read that will take quite a bit more time to process and implement. (And maybe a review or two to really
catch what's packed into the story.)

Some examples of the silly (meaningless, and forgettable) results of the Dilbert Mission Statement Generator include:

"Our mission is to continue to interactively pursue excellent catalysts for change for 100% customer satisfaction."

and

"We synergistically leverage other's quality meta-services and efficiently enhance emerging products."

and

"We have committed to efficiently fashion resource-leveling deliverables as well as to seamlessly leverage existing world-class content in order to solve business problems."

Full disclosure: I had lunch with the author last Christmas when I was visiting family in Orlando. He is a good man who truly lives the principles he espouses. I had the opportunity to sit in his office and explain to me the main principles he articulates in the book and in his consulting practice. Kevin is one of the few individuals I have ever met who truly understands how to put it all together to have a successful life....business or otherwise.

This book explains in logical detail why it is important to align our head, hands, and heart in our business endeavors, as in all areas of our lives. Businesses who follow these guidelines will be successful...both from a financial and with an abundance of happy, motivated, enthusiastic employees. Written in story format, this book is a quick read with a marvelous lesson for anyone involved in any kind of business. Individuals can also apply the lessons to their daily lives to increase their personal sense of fulfillment and happiness. The book's message is wonderful and very motivational.

I recommend this book as highly as I do it's companion by Mr. McCarthy, "The On Purpose Person". It's also on my shelf. This business companion is also an engaging parable.

It teaches principles of management with a spiritual bent by telling the story of a businessman who is appointed to run an organization facing bankruptcy.

Because there's more to life than business, I suggest you first read my review plus Kevin's other book. You'll discover why when you do.

However, if you're a typical Type 'A' business person, dive in! This book's GREAT too!
