Mention the comic strip Zits to teenagers or their parents and they'll eagerly launch into a long list of their favorite stories and strips that made it to the refrigerator door, making Zits the most effective form of communication between parents and their teens since the Post-it note. It's a phenomenon that takes place daily all over the world as teens and their parents thrust the latest exploits of Jeremy and his parents in front of each other and say, "This is so you!" This latest collection contains the story of Jeremy and Hector's surefire moneymaking summer koi pond digging business, the e-mail breakup between Sara and Jeremy, and over 200 more of this "essence of adolescence" comic strip.
There isn't anything I could say about this that wouldn't also apply to Zits Unzipped, but I had a lot of fun reading this with lots of nostalgia, even though I didn't remember any of the specific plotlines.
Originally published in 2002 (with strips from 2001), this is full of the further adventures of Jeremy Duncan, as he battles teenaged life and tries to understand his parents, Walt and Connie. There’s honestly so much to love in this and I’m sure at least part of that affection comes from the bells this rings in my own life, both my memories of being a teen (I had a great teenhood, in the 80s), my love of coming-of-age stories and my life as a parent to Dude (who’s 18 as I write this and now a uni student). There were a lot of great points in this - it’s funny, melancholic at times, accurate and occasionally surreal and always spot on - and my highlights include helping with revision, noisy teens, Walt’s art of napping, hot flashes, Dad’s on phones, laundry problems, breaking up with Sara, Amira, “Mornin’, Old Timer…”, heavenly bodies (cover image), family meeting, “What Th-???”, the bright side, Phoebe and her coffee, The Parents’ Serenity Prayer, the restart button, sex as the elephant in the room, the thank you note struggle, kiss ratings and arranging quiet (nookie) time (for Walt & Connie). Some of this made me laugh out loud and I think it’s a work of absolute genius - I loved the book and would highly recommend it!
Anybody that has a teenager will love this comic strip. Heck, everybody who remembers BEING a teenager will love this strip. Filled with family style humor, you can't help but chuckle to yourself as you read about Jeremy and the daily struggles he deals with. A great read to lighten your day.
There is not much to say about Zits. It's about a teenager's life and how he deals with his pairs and the conflicts with the parents and how his mom tries to hard to connect with him, bla bla
This one of course, it's also about the relationship with this girl.
