An addition to the Sing-Along series which includes musical notation expands on the familiar song to include a girl, a poodle, a toad, and a rooster who, along with Yankee Doodle, open a restaurant called Yankee Doodle's Noodles.
Fun take on the folk song. I still don't like "with the girls be handy" which sounds sexist and inappropriate. But, the energy of the story goes toward the manic noodle shop and the cooperation between all the characters like the pony, toad and poodle cooking macaroni and cheese, the girl and the rooster making strudel, and the poodle and Yankee Doodle Dandy making lemonade and sandwiches. Great illustrations of all the action with lots of details to note.
Yankee Doodle as you have never seen him before! Yes, Yankee Doodle rides a horse. Yes, he sticks a feather in his cap. But, he meets a fair maiden, a poodle, a toad, and a rooster. They start a restaurant called Yankee Doodle's Noodles.
Hoberman draws out a simple (and historic) song to new heights and silliness. Readers can easily jump in and sing the verses of this book. The beginning of the book includes the musical notes if the reader can play an instrument and the back of the book features games and questions. Great book for individual readers or a group reading session.

Yankee Doodle is just fun and silly. It starts and ends with the familiar tune, but he also meets a girl, some animals and ends up opening up a restaurant properly named Yankee Doodles Noodles. The illustrations are whimsical and the text is quite hilarious. My daughter giggles every time we read it together!
I butchered the music to this but it is a funny little book in which Yankee Doodle gets a noodle shop with a poodle (and a girl, and a toad, and a pony).
Silly, light Fourth of July read...but, man, I need practice on Yankee Doodle. (Phew!)
This book is the song Yankee Doodle in a story format. I liked the book. It was fun to sing the song and it had extra words I did not remember from when I was a child.
Yankee Doodle was never my favorite book, but more of a catchy song. I enjoyed the book but there was a little too much going on for me. It was a little too fast pace for my liking.
