After reading this short story, I have a lot of thoughts to when it comes to Mrs Whipple’s character. While she does seem to love her son, and he is said to be her favorite, she doesn’t treat him the way one would their favorite child. She keeps him from doing the things he likes and is good at, she physically hits him despite him not being able to defend himself—at least verbally, and treats him as if he deserves less just because he doesn’t complain—which I’ll say once again that he CANT. I have many questions for Porter, but this was definitely a well written story. 6/10
A wonderful short story about a couple near a farm down south, trying to lead a stable and respectable life in their community while handling their disabled kid 'He' along with their other two children.
