This is the most in-depth and useful book on Hollywood costume design I've come across and though it too focuses on the Classical studio era, it does actually acknowledge the contributions of some designers into the 1960s and 1970s. It also does a good job of explaining a certain designers personal style (what made him or her distinctive as opposed to just the major stars he or she dressed) and touching on some of the lesser known designers. If you're looking for a book to start with, try and track this one down.
