Have you ever wondered how other women survived their 40's? You'll get an earful in Knowing Pains, an honest, humorous, thoughtful and diverse collection of essays by real women who aren't afraid to tell their age and tell it like it is. Sex, marriage, love, divorce, motherhood, singlehood, passion, obsession. Nothing is off-limits to this startlingly fresh group of new female voices that Molly Rosen has brought together to swap stories and compare notes on the desires, influences and events that have impacted and shaped their midlives. Collectively, they form a true picture of how real women not only survive their 40's, but thrive with dignity, courage and laughter.
I started reading this a few years ago, and didn't find many of the essays relatable, so I put it down. I only have about six months left in my 4os, so I figured I'd give it another go, then drop it off at my local Little Free Library for someone else to enjoy.
I think this book is better enjoyed if you're nearing 40 or just right at the beginning of the decade.
This book was a 40th bday gift, and I must say, it was terrific, and I'll be giving it as a gift to my girlfriends as they hit the big 4-0. It was fun, uplifting, sweet, and touching. It's a great find.
This is my official "40th birthday gift" for all my girlfriends. I laughed, I smiled knowingly, I inhaled in fear and it made some of the craziness seem normal.
totally biased as i am a contributor - but i really enjoy dipping into this book whenever i need a laugh. i'm especially fond of the essay about gray hair.
