A delight. Industry, risk, coziness, it’s all there. Cute illustrations, and already a bit dated when it first appeared. Remarkably, the baker is single.
This was one of my favourites many moons ago (so I am told) and now it is being enjoyed by the next generation — it lends itself well to the story-bag-of-objects, the dough, the bell-rung-to-attract-customers and the purse of pennies being among the many tactile and auditory delights.
