A sex competitor from the future, Brian Byrne, skilled in the art of lust, seduction, and pleasure, meets his match in American tourist, author, and divorcTe Ally O'Neill who teaches him that sex is much better when love is involved. Original.
Talk about misspent youth. What did I do during those lazy summer days of childhood when I could’ve been honing my writing skills? Nothing. Okay, so I spent a lot of time dreaming I was a cowgirl with a trusty black stallion. Oh, and I read every Walter Farley horse novel. I was an only child so I relied on my imagination to supply the excitement in my life.
By high school, I’d decided to trade in my lariat for a trench coat. I was into dark and dangerous. As an intrepid foreign correspondent, I’d stalk the mean streets of the world. Did I actually write anything? No, but I did read all of Agatha Christie’s mysteries.
I worked at a department store during college. My short stint in the accounting department taught me a lot about math. Three hundred-dollar shortages plus hysterical tears equaled instant move to gift-wrap. A career in math was not in my future. I didn’t care because I’d discovered “real” literature. I plowed through James Joyce’s Ulysses and Tolstoy’s War and Peace. If it didn’t make my eyes cross then it wasn’t worth reading. Yes, I admit it, I was a literary snob.
Nina and best buddy, Barbara Joyce. Folk singers extraordinaire.
But there’s just so much “real” literature one person can take. I graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in English Literature and a determination to avoid books that induced eye crossing or had tragic endings. The only things I managed to write during those years were research papers.
I taught second grade for several years then spent two years in Dublin, Ireland. A friend and I supported ourselves by singing folk songs in Irish pubs. We weren’t great, but we were young, enthusiastic, and wore short skirts. It was obviously my destiny to be the next Judy Collins. I spent a lot of time poring through music books.
Returning to New Jersey and reality, I taught elementary school until I grew restless again. My cross-country odyssey included stays in Arizona, California, and Texas. Along the way, I indulged my love of horses. No black stallions, but I did have several beautiful Arabian mares. I read tons of books on breeding and showing.
Somewhere between California and Texas I grew addicted to romance novels and cats. The cat’s independent attitude was exactly the quality I admired in my romance heroes. And once I decided to try writing my own romances, I made sure a cat crept into each story.
Texas is my permanent home. I’ve come full circle. Born in San Antonio, I spent most of my life in New Jersey. Maybe the Texas in my blood accounts for my attachment to strong men, fast horses, and wide-open spaces. My love of cats? Haven’t a clue.
I’m officially calling this one DNF at 15% The concept is brilliantly chaotic. Sex Olympic champion in the future time travels back to the past and falls quickly for Ally McBeal cough, I mean Ally O’Neill, cough. But this book is way more unpleasantly 2002 (and the not-great conduct behaviors standards of men at that time) than a science fiction OTT futuristic sex adventure book.
Summary: Ally O Neill, has recently gone through a divorce after trying to be a perfect wife for five years. Now with her great aunt Katy, she is a tourist and a famous author on a best selling series. Now Ally wants no man, no matter how irresistable he may be and that includes Brian Byrne. Brian Byrne is from the future, and is a champion of a sex spectator sport, he has come to the past for a vacation and has agreed to have no sex during the duration however when he meets the one woman that resists his charms, he is immediately drawn to her. So even though he has agreed to a no sex clause in his contract, he intends to show Ally what true passion is like, but what he never expected was to fall in love in this game of his….
The Hero (Brian Byrne) Brian, ever since he was sixteen years old, has been involved in sex games, and is way good at it too. He has trained hard to be where he has, and has been able to help his kids (those on the streets) get a education and careers, so they can have a better life than he did. When Brian was little his mother promised that she would return and she never did, so ever since than he made a vow to honor each promise he made, no matter the circumstances. He is in a contract for five more years of sex games, but once he meets Ally his loyalty is divided and he must choose between honor and love
The Heroine (Ally O Neill) Ally, did everything she could to make her marriage work, she was the perfect wife for five years, but then he left her for another woman, and knew her life was over. Now she has worked hard, and is in Scotland being a tourist, needed a vacation and to relax…but then she comes across Brian, who claims to be from the future, and a literal sex god, but she starts to see something deeper in this man. My Thoughts Night Games is written by Nina Bangs, and I had such a fun time reading this. It was such a fun and witty romance, that I never stopped laughing. Night Games is a bit different than some of the other books that I have read from her, definitely has a humorous ring to romance if there ever was one. Night Games is a very enthralling and sensual read, one that will heat up the room like matchsticks. There was one problem that I had with this book, was that Ally was so gullible at times, she just accepted that Brian was from the future, so easily, that it didn’t seem real especially at the beginning of the story, however as the story progressed, it started to become more realistic, and the story became captivating and riveting, that I started to fall in love with it. So overall a humorous and enjoyable read!!!
My Favorite Quote As she watched, the amusement changed to something else. Something hot, hungry. Dangerous. “You tempt me greatly, woman”
I really do love the concept for this book. Brian Byrne is a man from the future who is the MVP of the hottest sport. Sex. Apparently sex has become a spectator sport and Brian is at the top of the game. Bored with how things are, he decides to take a vacation - 500 years into the past to 2002 - to visit the home of his Irish ancestors. In the meantime, Ally O'Neill is in Ireland, following her quirky aunt around on a paranormal walkabout that leads them straight into Brian's company. Things progress nicely and their encounters are funny, touching and sexy. The climax was good, something I didn't suspect going in and made things so much more interesting. All of Brian's follower's from the future - including his agent, his boss, and the captain of his old team - make the whole trip hilarious. Definitely a great read and going onto my keepers shelf!
Strike one - heroine. Doormat for comic relief I think. While married to her now ex, she did things like oh, put toothpaste on his toothbrush for him. Oh, and measure out his cereal, milk, and sugar, *and mix them for him*. Successful writer on how to be the Perfect Wife. Should have just gotten a job at assisted living or daycare center instead since she liked doing pretty much everything up to and presumably including wiping others' asses.
Strike two - Hero. From future where sex is a spectator sport. You know, I've read my share...ok, more than my share... of books where the H was a sexual performer of some sort prior to meeting the heroine. I generally like it better when he feels some sense that his chosen profession isn't exactly ah...bragworthy. Boasting that you were voted the MVP (most valuable penis) doesn't really...no. Just doesn't work for me. There has to be some sense of self-disgust or introspection BEFORE the h raises an eyebrow and says "you're a WHAT?!"
Strike three - interfering/manipulative friend/relative. By now, anyone following my reviews already knows my feelings about this. Tante Lulu barely gets by with it mostly because she's half cracked. Everyone else, nah; sorry. Not nearly as charming. Katy, in this case, is an impulsive and v. judgmental great-aunt who takes off on hair brained and ill-advised jaunts, yet criticizes heroine for not jumping into quicksand with both feet. Uh... Right.
Two balls - uh...self explanatory
Assortment of fouls out of play - increasing cast of characters, including an ancient alien shapeshifter (the team owner), an owner for a competing team, an agent, a trainer, a ghost, and a somewhat psychotic would-be girlfriend of heroine's ex (couldn't handle being compared to Ms Doormat so she's trying to kill her)
Plot - Hero wants vacation, daft relative drags heroine on wild goose chase to see magical Irish beings (yet, ironically, manages to miss every one of them - maybe they avoid lunatics). Their paths intersect. Attraction occurs in spite of themselves, mayhem occurs because of daft relative and psycho chick, etc. etc. He ends up staying but he's apparently his own ancestor...unless as I suspect, his father WAS the priest and his mother a time traveler herself. Whatever. Really don't like the Grandfather Paradox being implied in my time travels.
Hard to believe that I would come across a novel sci-fi, time-travel romance concept, but I would consider myself pretty lucky after coming across the pen name, Nina Bangs and her newest book at Borders (I was looking for Maya Banks).
The heroine is Ally O'Neil, who has come to Ireland with her Great Aunt, to (a) heal from her recent divorce and (b)write a book. After making a career of being a 'perfect wife' and maintaining a 'perfect marriage', its finally time for her get pampered for a change. The hero is Brian Bryne, a super star Sex athlete (the new spectator sport of the future) from the year 2502, who decides that he needs a vacation to the past. Brian has always seen sex as a competition, there is no room for a woman in that game. But meeting Ally has made him want more. With the assortment of futuristic managers and team owners keeping them apart, they fall in love and overcome the time difference.
This book is hilarious. The whole concept of a Sex Bowl was completely bonkers but interestingly, Nina Bangs actually explains it, unlike some sci-fi/fantasy romances I know. The secondary characters were also so strange and twisted, that it added a supernatural dimension or comic relief that you normally won't find. The ex-husband's gf was completely unnecessary, but the super horny Great Aunt, 'more than a woman' Nebebula, catty shapeshifter boss, Old One, were super fun to read about.
I highly recommend this book and wait to read more from Nina Bangs. (P.S.'bangs' - are you thinking what I'm thinking?)
Okay, time travel. But this time it's HIM coming back from 2502, from our future.
Ally is on a trek through Ireland with her elderly and hysterical Aunt Kate. Kate wants to see any manner of pixies, fairies, shapeshifters, ghosts or goblins. Rather amusing that she keeps missing them and Ally sees them!
Ally is recently divorced from her jerk of a husband after she had tried to be the perfect giving wife. That only works if the partner is giving too, and not just taking.
Along comes Brian, from the future. He's the MVP of the SEX GAMES. For him it's always about giving completion to women, but only in context of the GAMES. Yes, he feels good too, but it's about the physical, not the emotional aspects of it. Suddenly, it's not as much fun as it used to be. He's tired of it.
He's under contract to NOT have sex, she doesn't want sex...and you see where this is going.
BUT the journey is so much FUN. With Pookahs opening gates; ghosts adding their two cents worth of advice; a cat who is NOT what she appears to be; and just maybe a killer from Ally's own time.
I actually started reading this some time last year, but something came in the way and I didn't finish it until a few days ago.
Just like all of Nina Bangs books it was chock-full of humor, intrigue and most of all hot steaming sex.
Since it was another timetravel story it made me think of Master of Ecstasy, which is pretty dumb, because they're not similar.
A man that competes in sex but never have made love to a woman meets a woman who spent years doing everything to please her husband and since vows to never please a man again. Crazyness ensues, just like every other book in every other series.
The great aunt reminded me of Sparkle, if Sparkle had been human. It was fun, it was hot but I missed the talking cats.
If you’re looking for a good laugh with a little fantasy and spice this is it🤣 my friend and I seen two copies at used bookstore and grabbed them for a Buddy read. Katy and the Old One are the best combo characters. Katy just wants to see a damn faerie or ghost and the Old One just needs to protect her MVPs package 🤣
NIGHT GAMES threw me for a loop with its future setting and all the changes that the year 2502 brings.
In Brian Byrne’s time, sex is the biggest spectator sport around and he’s the best there is. (Think NFL and Superbowl big) Just coming off a team championship title, Brian doesn’t feel the satisfaction he once did and decides to go back in time 500 years to visit his family’s land in Ireland.
Now, 2002, Brian meets Ally O’Neil and her great aunt, Katy, whom are sightseeing for ghosts and other supernatural sights.
It soon becomes clear that Brian wasn’t the only one to time travel as he finds his boss; the Old One is cat form, his agent Jupe, his trainer Nebula and rival team owner Cap have tagged along, each for their own reasons.
Boss and Jupe want to make sure nothing keeps him from returning to be their top money maker and Cap is hoping he’ll stay in this time, giving his team the best chance to win a championship.
Brian and Ally’s relationship is one that progresses slowly as they are both thrown off from their reaction to each other. Brian has never had a woman appreciate him for just him, has never had a woman’s touch and Ally’s coming off a divorce after writing bestsellers and being the perfect wife.
As their love grows, they are both faced challenges and having to decide how hard they are willing to fight for the other.
Overall, I enjoyed this book; it just took a little bit to get use to the future changes. I loved getting to know Brian.
3.5 Not your traditional romance, thankfully, although it wasn't long enough! This book has an amazing main character working in a male dominated world with tough, success oriented parents.
I was awfully disappointed when her 'secret' was revealed, I just didn't think it was necessary to the plot and brought the authenticity of the charactr down a level. Not that those things don't happen, or that they make a person any less valuable; I just dont think it was well planned in the book, didn't fit in with her character type, and was too briefly stated to help develop any emotions on the subject.
When an author can create great charactrs like these it is always welcome news there are more books in the series! Perhaps more insight into Danica's emotions or situation would increase the interest levels even more.

This book is full of laughter and humor. An author, whose divorced, is trying to write another book. Her books have been about being the perfect wife. She finds that her ex has betrayed and used her. A man from the future time travels to the present day. He is a champion of sex games played in 2502. Follow them as they stay near a ruined castle. Others come after the time traveler to see that he cuts his vacation short, also a relative is traveling trying to find banshee and the wee folk. You'll find you can't put this book down
OK. I'm male and haven't read anything in this genre for at least 20 years or so but I have to admit that I had fun reading it. Suspension of disbelief has to be major, (time travel + fairies + ...) but once one gets into rhythm it gets interesting. The author sure knows how to tell a story, how to be funny, how to build tension, and how to release it. (I found it may be a bit lacking in the release area but I'm not part of her intended audience, so what do I know...)
This is the third book i have read of Nina Bangs, and i have to say, even though stories are good i can't stand heroins. They so far a are characters i can't like. No matter how hard i try. I just hope the next book i read of hers, i will feel a connection to the heroin. Other than that i really enjoy her stories.
it was a weird concept. even without all of the future and "sex Olympics" I not sure I bought into the whole idea. they both never knew true love and they found it when one traveled 500 years into the past. I felt there were too many characters to get a good feeling or closeness to any of them.
this is my very first weird futuristic time travelling romcom book... have i already said it's weird and thank god i didnt see the cover at all before opening the ebook. I felt good reading about this book bec it gets comfortable feeling weird every time I remember this story.
