The story follows a group of young teens from their recruitment to the Haganah in early 1946 to the U.N. vote in November 1947. We read about their training, their friendships, school, the ma'apilim who are hidden in Jewish homes, about the Jewish collaborators of the British, and more. It took me a long time to finish - and much pestering of my son to help with difficult words - but was well-worth all the effort.
