On this CD program, Joan Z. This was interesting and I found some of the research based information great to hear about. I enjoyed that it gave a good background on what meditation is, the different kinds and gave examples of many things discussed. I had hoped for a more guided meditation, and there wasn’t a lot of that in there. A great starting point for anyone interested in meditation!
This was very pleasant to listen to. A great start for beginning meditation exercises with wonderful stories and some humor thrown in for an even nicer experience. Will look into more from this author.
This was a really good intro to meditation. Many meditation guides talk about what to do but not so much addressing what actually happens. This book covers how even if it seems that you're failing at meditating it can still be working for you. There is also some great perspective into the different motivations of why people motivate and how to make it work for you.
This isn't actually a book; it's a series of live lectures, and it's wonderful! Joan is funny and likeable and very human. She goes over the history and medical research on meditation (she's a psych PhD, I think) without being dry and pedantic. I left this in the car CD player, and even my husband got swept up listening to it.
Joan Borysenko is a wise, highly qualified teacher of meditation and this audiobook contains a lot of information that actually goes beyond the basics. Useful to anyone whether a beginner or even a more experienced meditator, The Beginner's Guide to Meditation is a great way to learn about meditation and various techniques of going about it, in a easy paced, well-explained format.
A great lecture! The speaker goes over three types of meditation, with a guided meditation at the end of the two hour lecture. Very informative, and the speaker has a soothing, calm voice, and she uses humor to speak about the topic which is fun and keeps the listener interested.
A recording of an excellent workshop that gives a concise overview of types of meditation, how to decide what is best for you, and a guided meditation. Very helpful. I'm going to listen to it again.
An awesome read about different types of meditation and has two great meditations to do as a part of it. Feeling great afterwards and much more informed.
