Dr. Thierry Hertoghe is a world-reknown expert on hormones and longevity. His reference manual on hormones for medical doctors is a standard. He has published and co-authored several books for the general public, the most well known of which is The Hormone Solution. His most recent is Le Regime Hormone.
I have only read the latter, but suspect that it is more or less just the french version of the Hormone Solution. The book is structured more or less as a classic diet book with a sections describing the medical theories behind the proposed diet, sections with questionnaires intended to allow the reader to get an idea of their own profile and that of friends and family members, sections on what do to the balance this or that hormone, and then sections on suggested menus and recipes.
It useful to learn some basics about hormones, where they come from, what they do, how they act on the body and how they interact with each other. I certainly learnt a lot of things I didn't know.
His basic recommendations are to eat meats, eggs, nuts and seeds, vegetables and a small amount of fruit. No sugars, no starches, and no cereal products except for freshly sprouted grains. He recommends eating things raw as much as possible in order to maximise enzyme content and therefore digestibility, giving the alternative of low-temperature (70-85 C) cooking or steaming.
Another good book on hormones and HRT. This book had the most comprehensive converage, compared to the other books on hormones that I've read. He doesn't give enough of an explanation of bio-identical vs. pharmaceuticals, which was disappointing. I'm also skeptical about some of his dietary suggestions. But his thorough analysis of ALL the hormones was really great.
This book is amazing. Most books only tell you what the hormones do, but this book goes beyond that. How to increase your hormones naturally AND step by step on how to do it yourself or people who can help. I am now a fan of Thierry and look forward to reading his other books!
