From sumptuous to sensuous, the stylish, elegant knits in this book are perfect for a night on the town. Designs for a sexy beaded halter top, a sleeveless tee, a wraparound shawl, and a knockout obi belt beautifully combine color, panache, and warmth. Tips on classic and novelty yarns accompany all designs, including many that children can wear to parties. Simple and quick to complete, the designs in this collection offer creative inspiration for sophisticated knitwear.
BOTTOM LINE: Another one of those trendy/chic wannabes, alas. Very cute patterns (and my use of the word "cute" is NOT meant to be complimentary...) in quite peculiar styles, and although a couple of the designs were rather nice the sizings were small. Not my cuppa, alas.
Quite frankly, much of this book has a bad case of "what WERE they thinking??"! Most of the patterns seemed to me to be quite kitsch-y, and not what anybody in their right mind would want to wear, particularly out in public, especially at a sophisticated gathering. (BTW, I thought fake-fur vests went out with the 1970s. ...and good riddance, as I said then...) But the patterns are easy to follow should they be to your liking, and the book is spiral-bound, a very large plus in my estimation - I believe ALL knitting or crochet books ought to be spiral-bound for ease of use. And this little book has a quite unexpected "find" inside - several extremely nice patterns for *children*'s clothes! (although what the kiddies are doing up After Dark, I dunno...) Especially lovely is a sweet (and that IS meant as complimentary) dress for a little girl sized 1 thru 6, made from DK cotton yarn. Looks to me as though the kids have far better taste than their elders!
Admittedly, I'm not at all the target audience for this book, as I never wanted much to be "chic!" or trendy even when I was young and slim, and now I'm large, and old, and cranky, and set in my ways. Plus "cute!!!" has always made me grind my teeth.... So take my ravings with a grain of salt. (grin). Sorry, Ms. Eaton - your patterns in this book are just not my style - I prefer the "genteel classics". Now, if you've got a book with some of those in it......!
