Geoffrey Hayes has written and illustrated over forty children’s books, including the extremely popular series of early readers Otto and Uncle Tooth, the classic Bear By Himself, and When the Wind Blew by Caldecott Medal-winning author Margaret Wise Brown.
This is such a wonderful little book. I'm utterly heartbroken that it's out of print. The one copy we had when I was little was secreted away by my sister, who claims it was a birthday present from our grandparents. I bet she strokes it quietly and mumbles "my precious" when she thinks no one can hear.
"Mix it, mash it, stir stir stir. No more balls of mushy poison." As grown-ups, my family and I still quote our favorite Patrick lines such as this one, which finds our young hero Patrick the bear facing a dreaded substance on his plate at dinnertime: peas. This is a top-notch little children's storybook. I also highly recommend Patrick Buys a Coat, Patrick Takes a Bath, and Patrick Goes to Bed.
this was my favoritest ever and my introduction to anti-authority behavior. little green balls of mushy poison indeed. me and my sis would crack up - we memorized the whole book. now she is preggos and i wish this was coming out sooner because i want to gift it to my new nephew!
