Thrill of the chase

He unlocked the door, then slowly pushed it open.

He stood frozen to the spot, cloaked in darkness. He longed to turn and run. His whole body was bathed in perspiration. "Go back," the small, persistent voice inside his head warned.

He knew he would not.

It was then he felt the presence. The air in the room changed. It became stifling, thick with a foul odour. The walls pulsated. Up from the floor rose a thunderous pounding: the hideous over-amplified beating of a heart.

He knew only the all-encompassing yearning.

The longing to kill.

Well. That was not exactly a letdown, I guess, since I kind of knew what to expect from the first book being so dull. But I thought the villains would make more of an appearance, at least. Instead there was the Native American woman known as Featherwoman who shows up out of nowhere and imparts cryptic wisdom. And the random mountain man who also has wisdom to impart. And the premise that love can literally heal wounds, as well as bring gardens into bloom and restore decrepit houses. Yay for love!

The cool parts were brief and didn't make up for the WTF parts.

This story makes no sense.

I will admit it was slightly better than The Curse.

Now that Miranda knows Garth's secret she will do everything she can to help him beat the darkness within. However there is something even darker lurking in the nearby forest. Miranda makes a decision that she thinks will help her understand the darkness better and help Garth, but what she does not realize is she may have let the darkness in.

I really enjoyed parts of this book but one decision Miranda made was so stupid and I knew nothing good would come of it that the book only received three stars.
