Beautiful Dara Tulley believes she's found her first love at age 15 in a misty field with a rich, married farmer. But after a night of wild passion, he spurns her, calling her the "Daughter of Satan." Learning to use her body to give men pleasure, she saves enough for a passage to America. There she meets a man who brings her to the heights of sexual ecstasy, but he too is married, and Dara must face an unknown world alone again. From simple country girl to experienced lady, from the Isle of Man to America to London, Dara's sexual adventures lead her into dozens of beds, marriage, prostitution--and a career in acting. She explores every kind of love and lover, including a minister, an aristocrat with unusual notions about sex, a thief and the Prince of Wales himself. Dara takes you on an unforgettable sexual odyssey that will forever alter your notions of restrictive Victorian lives.
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
Not a bad book about a women trying to make it in a time where things just seem impossible. At points I felt sorry for Dara and what she had to go through. However, I wonder why the author wanted to stay anonymous?
Can't find much on the history of this book, but I'm 90% sure it was written sometime between the 1960s-80s. The language is off for a Victorian writer and how certain issues are dealt with is really out of keeping with the time. The Panther Publishing edition (the one printed in England) lists the author as Lynn Bell, who wrote a few other similar sounding titles. That's all I can find though. Anyone else know?
As for the book itself it was a fun beach read, but lacked what I usually look for in this class of book.
meh. weird sexual odyssey of a young Victorian woman. I remembered reading this in high school and finding it very erotic. it was still very erotic, but my interests have changed. Super happy that the What's the Name of That Book and the Romance Novel Book Sleuth groups were able to help me find this. The title had been eluding me for years. :)
