As a chemistry and math guy, this was an interesting book to serve as a time capsule illustrating the mathematical knowledge and skills chemistry students were expected to have in the late '70s. Since calculators have only become more widespread since this book's publication, it was interesting (and dare I say fun!) to see chapters on both rapid mental arithmetic and logarithms complete with log tables and how to utilize them to perform multiplications, divisions, exponents, and roots without the aid of a calculator. I even learned a method for calculating the square root if hard-pressed and didn't have a calculator (or at least one with a square root function). Also, it's a shame Goodreads doesn't have the cover for this book as it is an awesome artwork reminiscent of the '70s, math, and chemistry (what more could you ask for?!).
