"An ebullient blend of singsong chants and giddy rhymes, this rollicking read-aloud tale is perfect to share with the youngest preschooler." –Kirkus Reviews
Sing along "riding the bus to school, to school, riding the bus to school " with this rhyming tale about the best part of the school day – riding the bus!
Here comes the school bus, beep, beep, beep! Step right up and take a seat with a sleepy sheep, a squirmy worm, a hairy bear, a quick, quick chick, a fox with socks, a pig in a wig, and a goat in his coat, and ride the bus to school, to school, and ride the bus to school! The bouncy, rhyming text and the bright, witty pictures make The Little School Bus a ride that children will want to take over and over again.
STARRED REVIEW "Thanks to this well-matched duo, this is buoyant fun from pickup to drop-off." –Publishers Weekly
A patron came into the library today and picked this book off my "back to school" display. We sat down together and we assisted each other with reading the story. To keep his attention I paused after saying things like "the goat in his..." and waited for the little guy to say "coat". We did this on each page so he could read himself. A cute story for a one on one read or circle time as well.
This is a great book to read right after school starts. There is a repetition in the book that will keep everyone engaged. The story starts with the school bus coming around and picking up all of the animals for school. Each time a new animal gets on the bus, the story repeats all the animals before it. This is a great book for kids just returning to school.
Really easy read aloud; cute book about the bus that picks up the young animals to and drops them off after school; good chain of events/couplet rhymes story about each animal;
would be good for 'Wheels on the bus' theme storytime;
This fun rhyming story could be sung as it is repetitive and cumulative. The school bus picks up passengers as it travels to school - goat in a coat, fox with socks, squirmy worm, and more.
The book is in song form. When read it seems to want to be sung. It starts off with a school bus pulling up and saying that we ride the bus to school. Then a goat, a pig, a fox, a chicken, a bear, a worm, and a sheep. They get to school and learn all day as the bus waits for them. Everyone gets back on the bus.
The book repeats the little song of which animal gets on the bus in what order.
I would share this with a class to help them get used to riding the bus if they were scared about it. I would have the class repeat with me the order of the animals once they started to catch on.
Rhyming words, repetition, addition and a beat keep this book moving right along! The bus driver follows his route and picks up the little learners for school. Each animal is distinct with a rhyme: a goat in a coat, a pig in a wig, etc. The animals can also be counted as they hop onto the bus. This book would also make a great flannel story.

This book had a lot of good use of rhyming words, rhyming the animal with what it was wearing (goat in a coat) and so on. The story kept a good flow and had repetiton...this would allow students to know what was going to be said next. I've seen kids even read along with the teacher out loud due to knowing the repetition.
THis book is really cute for pre k, definitely for kindergarten. It helps with counting and memorizing. Also a great book for rhyming words and descriptive adjectives.
This is a great book for the young readers becuase it is a fun story wiht animals and rhyming words. It has lots of repitition and colorful illustrations.
