I agreed in the overall general sense. but comes off as harsh is his writing towards people with that self pity attitude. we often forget in our striving to be holy that we are human and cannot accomplish the perfect attitude in the midst of struggle. but this author i felt in the throughout the book was way too harsh to the humanistic tendencies. And in no way, is my God ever harsh with his children in the midst of the broken hearted. he is close to the contrite. and if we could always have the perfect mindset there would never be a need for God to be with us when we are broken. He makes this point at the end and ties is all together by describing how God is to his children. but you've got to read 8 chapters to get to that point. and while you're reading to get there, there are points that you want to throw the book against the wall.

This is a fantastic resource for those who are suffering great affliction and tempted to question God. It is sound in doctrine, taking the reader to some essential attributes of God and then applying them practically to our thinking. It is a thorough but short read which asks hard questions and bring a huge amount of scripture forth with the answers. Highly recommended.

A good book on adversities, but too many scriptures with too few explanations/ elaborations. Good for meditation, but if you want to grasp the concepts quickly, this is not for you. Should read it slowly, meditate the scriptures, and answer all the questions to reap the greatest benefits.

I enjoyed the practical application of how we ought to view God in the midst of trials. I enjoyed the application questions as well, especially for somebody who is going through a trial

Clear, concise, direct, focussed text, dealing with our misunderstandings of who God is, and how we need to think differently about how everything works based on who God is. An excellent read. A must-read for everyone who claims to be a Christian.

This is a great book to help in biblical counseling! It helps the reader to see God for who He really is. Some of the discussion questions at the end weren't as helpful as others. LOVED chapter 8! Great way to see how this book can be put in practice in your life.

This was a good book to read while going through trials. It clearly presented a godly perspective on trials from Scripture. It also challenges you to have that godly perspective.

Challenged me in some ways because I felt Mack had a bias toward some evangelical teaching which I do not accept. But still I got something out of it.
