Lots of diagrams and detailed instructions. I like that it breaks down the depth you need to dig for specific pathways/patios based on temperature zones. The beginning few chapters are basic idea-generating pages. The latter half of the book was more helpful. There's a chapter at the end (just a few pages) noting plant options for filling cracks/retaining walls/water features.
Found it rather jumbling and confusing in the way they presented how to use different stone types in different situations. Did have a couple very useful examples, formulas and short cuts though for estimating cubic yards of gravel, sand and tons of stone. Some of the pictures were quite pretty and could provide starting points for your own projects.
Lots of pictures, lots of great ideas for using stone in your landscaping. It's not very clear on ways to execute these ideas beyond the basics, and I would probably still hire a professional, but it does give you a good jumping off point for the planning stages.
