This book is dated, written in 1976, but a lot of it still holds up. Excellent descriptions of the island (though because of when it was written I'd like to know what has since changed) and a detailed chapter of Captain Cook's landing there and the slave trade that followed. The history of Chilean rule, again only up until the '70s, is well covered, too. All in all a very well written book that taught me a lot I did not know about this wonderful place.
