This book encompasses the ideas and aspirations of a wide range of specialists, including science fiction writers, futurists, applied scientists and technologists. In examining the relationship of science fact to science fiction the contributors address themselves to a variety of issues, some of which look far into the twenty-first century. Among the questions posed is whether science fiction provides insights into the future which can in turn be used to our social benefit and the general easing of the human condition.
