In Heir Apparent Karan Singh covered the first 22 years of his life. This volume covers the period from August 1953 to March 1967. During this period, the author observed and participated in major national developments such as the wars with China in 1962 and with Pakistan in 1965. He also
witnessed the passing away of two Prime Ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964 and Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966, and the rise to power of Indira Gandhi. As Head of State, he was closely associated with a number of important developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sadar-I-Riyasat: An Autobiography Volume II: 1953-1967 (Hardcover) by Karan Singh- Volume I is from 1931 to 1952. He acted as Constitutional head- Regent of Jammu and Kashmir and later as Sadar-I-Riyasat and later as Governor of J&K. He has mentioned his Graduation BA Degree from J&K University and working on the post Vice-Chancellor. During this period, he developed as a Sanskrit scholar and poet of repute. These were turbulent years for J&K and for India as China 1962 and Pak aggression 1965 took place. The books describes these two events. It also mentions the importance of implementation of Govenment development schemes simultaneously for Kashmir along with Jammu and Ladakh regions. Being a local person, he is aware that internal democracy was developed through Sabhas and Biradaris in different areas. He describes his efforts to strengthen and make responsible these institutions. It is a historical document. The book is worth reading for all.
