Lloyd A. Brown, once curator of maps at the William L. Clements library at University of Michigan, assembled this guide to help other map librarians understand where to find dates and titles on maps, how to handle them, how they have been handled, and the history of the creation of them.
Though it is out of date in regard to the creation of catalog cards, it is a must-read for anyone interested in learning more about the history of map librarianship. It is a wealth of information.
