Stuffing their tiny 1978 Volkswagen camper bus full to the pop-top roof, Rich and Amanda Ligato set out on the road trip of a lifetime through Mexico, Central America, South America, and Africa. After quitting cushy corporate jobs the couple left their comfortable home and said goodbye to lives that felt just a little too guaranteed, insured, and sealed for their own protection. They set out to discover first-hand how other find joy in life. Three year and 60,000 miles later...they returned home and did the unthinkable.
Meh. This book did not entertain or inspire as it seems to have done for most of the other reviewers. I found the collection of travel vignettes rather dry and disconnected. It is as if they were trying to hard to extract charming stories from just mundane experiences. No doubt their trip was packed for delightful experiences but the book does not manage to effectively share the delight with the reader.
Fist this book was hard to find and Hard to put down! A candid look at marrige, travel and letting go of everything you know to find out what you really want. Wish it had been longer and spent more time writting about Africa.
A good read by a couple who set a goal and went after their dreams...the writing is easy to comprehend and took me right back to my experiences of a similar adventure. I found many of the chapters authentic, funny, and pensive. Recommended to anyone looking for inspiration or adventure stories.
This book taught me that I never want to live in a teeny camper with my husband! These people were nuts but did get to see and experience things most of us never do.
Loved this book. They are living the life I wish I had the guts to live. Just bought a little 84 VW ourselves and they have definitely got us daydreaming.
