This book contains a variety of poems, excerpts from short stories, proverbs, a few true tales and many, many pictures (art).
So, to start: the front cover. I feel the picture here is a bit old fashioned. I wasn't really a fan of the art in the book. Much of it appeared to be from the style of the Victorian era. There were a few more traditional and some Chinese/East Asian art, too. The art is spread throughout the book and takes up half the book.
I hadn't come across any of the poems in here before. I hadn't heard of most of the proverbs either. This is surprising as I have read quite a few books of proverbs and other books with quotes about cats. The proverbs are from all over the world. I quite liked a couple of the short true stories.
Decent book overall, especially as it contains things I expect many cat lovers haven't come across before. It also contains a few superstitions and the supposed meaning of certain cats and what their behaviours in your dreams could mean.
I think a cat lover or word lover may gain something from this, but there is better out there. Specifically, I recall Cats Miscellany by Lesley O'Mara being really good, although I'd have to reread it to confirm this.
Incredible. Amazing. Splendiferous. There aren't enough abjectives in my vocabulary to describe how I feel about this book. It's the best thing I've ever read. An absolute classic, 10/10.
