A great reference book for any Reiki practitioner. Has a glossary in the back explaining which positions to use for specific physical illnesses. Love that part.

I am so grateful that the Universe brought me back to Reiki and I know it is working in so many areas of my life. Thank you, Joyce for the influence you have had on me. Namaste.

I wanted some information about Reiki prior to my first session since the concept is very abstract and I want to make sure I get out of it the most that I can. I think the book was interesting in the first few sections because it explained some of what I wanted to know but for the most part it is geared toward someone who wants to become a Reiki practitioner. This is the same problem I’ve found with all the books on the subject I’ve researched, so I don’t think it’s the book itself or the author; it’s just that it seems Reiki is something you have to experience to understand, rather than read about to prepare.

Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of this healing system, taught and practiced something seemingly small and yet so basically different than what this author wrote about anger. The author's misunderstanding about anger that differs from the previous teachings might have brought some out of attunement with the positive energy of Reiki. Fortunately she does include the translation of his words on page 31, before she expounds on her preferred approach to anger- that then diverges not only from Reiki, but also from the ancient lineages that Dr Usui drew from. It might be of interest to note, anger has been shown, in modern scientific research, to be inconsistent with healing. One can choose to be angry. We have that freedom. However, we cannot choose anger and also heal effectively. It just doesn't work that way, does it? I've had to learn this personally and I am concerned that this little mistake may have affected me and others, keeping us from the fulness of what we sought out in this book and in Reiki. I have since learned that we can choose not to be angry, although it may be difficult with conditioning that otherwise well-meaning people in our lives may have offered us. I suspect that there are other books on Reiki that be more true to it's essence.
